RARE Complete Set Whiting & Davis Heritage Collection "Star Series" Mesh Purses with Bonus Memorabilia

I am so proud to once again be able to offer another complete set of Whiting & Davis Heritage Collection Star Series mesh purses.  My first set took over 10 years to acquire ... this set took me 5.  In addition, this time I was able to acquire some terrific original memorabilia featuring the very stars on the purses ... my favorite being the large b/w photo of Clark Gable kissing Marion Davies from a 1936 movie called Cain & Mabel (with the full cast names on the back).  As for the purses themselves, they were made by Whiting & Davis in 1976 to commemorate their 100th anniversary.  Quite an achievement!  The set consists of Clark Gable (famed actor), Renee Adoree (famous actress of silent films), Charlie Chaplin (The Tramp), and Marion Davies (actress and mistress of William Randolph Hearst).  The Clark Gable purse has the original W & Davis tag as well as an original box which will hold all four purses.  The condition of all the purses is exceptionally good.  Each one is lined in silk and the linings are all in perfect condition with the only exception being Charlie Chaplin which is frayed in four spots, probably from rubbing as it appears unused.  Enameling is also in perfect condition with no missing tiles. Each has a braided twisted mesh shoulder strap.  Sizes will be mentioned on the pictures. The bonus items include:

This is a really gorgeous Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse in coral pink and blue on a yellow background.  The frame is embossed as well as the bars on the chainlink handle.  The fringe on this one is extraordinarily nice with a filigree Van Dyke fringe above a chainlink fringe all done in the same muted color. The purse is in very good condition with a wee bit of darkening right under the hinges.  There are also a few sporadic chain links missing frm the fringe but because of the way it hangs, you will never notice it.  All in all it is a lovely little purse in great conditon. It is marked Whiting & Davis on the inside of the frame.  The side is marked Soldered Mesh.  Measures 3-3/4" wide at frame x 4-1/2" wide at fringe when hanging straight x 7 " long from top of clasp to bottom of fringe.

Whiting & Davis Scenic Mesh Purse with Sailboat & Windmill

Here is a truly unique scenic Whiting & Davis mesh purse featuring strong art deco designs surrounding a panel on the lower half of a sailboat and windmill.  The frame is beautiful embossed with a heart in the center and vertical stripes with tiny flowers. These stripes are carried on in the design of the purse which is interrupted for the scenic panel and then finished off in the VanDyke fringe.  Both sides of the purse are identical so there is no front or back per se.  Colors are a creamy background with black, coral, and blue accents.  It is in excellent condition throughout.  Original hangtag is inside as well. Nice large size measuring 5"" wide x 7-1/2" long from clasp to fringe tip.

Rare Large Size Princess Mary Whiting & Davis Sunset Mesh Purse with Double Fringe

This mesh purse is a rare design in that it is a Whiting & Davis Princess Mary style purse (meaning the top opens like an envelope folded over), it is a sunset mesh pattern (which refers to the stripes in gradient shades of gold), and it is a super large size that I have not seen before. Plus the foldover flap has a rigid frame around it and a medallion vignette decoration which I have not run across before.  The fringe is a delight in that it is 2 layers: the first is an openwork diamond pattern made up of tiny chain links with a solid band beneath it and long single length chainlink fringe below that.  All in all a pretty rare example of this style purse and a real beauty to boot!  The mesh is all in excellent condition with no holes.  In fact, the only apology is that two of the chainlink fringes are missing some of the tiny links, an easy fix if you have the links at hand. Measures 5" wide at frame x 5-1/2" wide at fringe x 7-1/2" long from top of frame to bottom of fringe.

Here is another offering from my personal collection (since 2004) ... it is a Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse with a lovely Venetian lace inset into the fringe and a rarely found ruby jeweled clasp.  Usually when they used jewels on W & D purses, they were almost always sapphires.  This one is original and it is a facet cut ruby ... very pretty!  I'm not sure what the design is but I would guess it to be an abstract flower vase but that is open to interpretation.  The colors are purple, geen, orange, red and yellow on a silvery beige background.  The gold frame is embossed with delicate curlicues and both sides are the same.  The size is also exceptionally large ... it is almost 5" wide at the hinge x 9-1/2" long to tip of fringe.   It is signed on the frame inside and has the typical Whiting & Davis bar and link chain handle. There is some minor color loss to the background and on the fringes but overall in great shape with no missing links or loose areas.  It actually looks much brighter and nicer in person than the photos show.

This is a very rare Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse in a very large size and a style of frame that I have never had before (this one has been in my collection since 2006.  The size is also exceptionally large ... it is 5" wide at the hinge x over 6" wide at the bottom x 9" long to tip of fringe.  The design is an impressionistic looking bouquet of flowers with callal lillies and roses amonst others.  The design is the same on both sides and the colors "drip" into the fringe which is just gorgeous.  The frame -- which as I mentioned I have never seen another like it -- is bright gold with embossed triangular shapes with diamond cut curlicues in each one.  Inside is lined with a gold silk and there is a gold coin purse with a round beveled mirror inside.  With the exception of the lining being loose at the hinges, this entire purse is in MINT condition.  It is signed on the frame inside and has a snake chain handle.  It has long been a prize in my collection and now it can belong to you.

From my personal collection since 2006, this extremely rare purse is one of Whiting & Davis' unique "Poiret" styles with a strong deco influence with its two abstract people on either side of the bottom with their arms in the air.  It even still has its original Whiting & Davis hang tag along with a store tag with their inventory number on it.  The purse is done on a background of light cream with bold cherry red and coral designs and a hint of aqua strategically placed. The frame is superb with its openwork cener panels surrounded by embossed flowers and scrolls. The interior is lined in a pretty coral silk and it has its original beveled mirror (unfortunately time has crinkled the silver so it is not usable).  This beautiful purse is in MINT condition and is a real treasure!  Measures 4 " wide at frame hinges x 5" wide at bottom edge x 5" long from clasp to bottom.  And yes, it's expensive, but I paid a small fortune for it based on its condition and rarity of design.

This wonderful Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse has one of my favorite types of fringe:  the stepped version which is matched by the stepped clasp.  This is a fine example of deco styling and dates the purse to the 20's or early 30's.  Over the years I have seen this purse referred to as a scenic, supposedly depicting a house on a hillside but try as I might, I cannot see it.  To me it looks like a large flower or simply a watercolor ... either way, the colors are just beautiful and the design always appealed to me. Same scene on both sides ... colors on back are darker and more vivid than those on the front which makes it a double displayable!  I have owned this in my collection since 2007 and always enjoyed looking at it.  I especially love the rainbow effect in the stepped fringe ... so pretty!   The deco frame has raised diamonds on both sides giving it a 3-dimensional effect.  The interior is lined in silk with the original round beveled mirror in a ruched pocket.  The silk has pulled away from the frame at the hinge on the left about 1/2" or less on either side. Other than that it is in fantastic condition.  The mirror has some streaking from age but still usable. Stamped on the inside frame with the W & D logo.  Mesh is in excellent condition and is all tight to the frame.   Measures  4" wide x  7-1/2" long from clasp to tip of fringe.

This is a very rare Whiting & Davis mesh purse that has been in my personal collection since 2001.  It features two bluebirds and flowers on a light aqua background.  There is an art deco striped Van Dyke fringe and a black border around the scene.  One of the birds is in full flight while the other is pecking on the ground.  The frame is quite beautiful in an openwork design and clasp all in a design I have not seen before.  Both sides feature the same scene and the Whiting & Davis logo is stamped on the inside of the frame on the side edge rather than the top.  I believe this is one of W & D's earlier designs. There is minimal, if any, wear to the enamel and it is in truly excellent condition for its age which is going on 100 years.   It is also a fairly large purse measuring almost 5" wide at the frame x 8 " long from clasp to fringe tip.

Figural Mandalian Mesh Purse with Birds of Paradise

This lovely Mandalian Lustro-Pearl mesh purse has long been in my private collection ... since 1999 to be exact!  It has always been a favorite because I absolutely adore the turquoise blue and gold colors on the whie background.  This very popular design by Mandalian features a pair of Birds of Paradise in the design and I even see some blue butterflies in the design near the top although I doubt that was their intent.  My eyes see them though! lol   I also love the cathedral shaped frame with its embossed floral decorations.  Entire purse is in excellent condition with no enamel loss or missing tiles that I can see. Only problem anywhere is a few tiny rings missing from two of the fringes. This should be easy enough to replace although my eyes can no longer see well enough to do it. All links are tight to the frame as well. Measures 3-3/4" wide x 8" long overall.

This has long been one of the favorite Dresden mesh purses in my collection for many reasons:  the gorgeous 2-tone blue enameled frame with the fancy clasp in deco influence, the tiny rings in the mesh, the soft colors in the flowers cascading down to the multi-stepped fringe.  AND the handle is also enameled in blue!  And let's look further ... the interior is also lined in blue silk with ruched pocket.  Condition is extraordinary ... the mesh is all in excellent condition as is the lining and the enameling on the frame (which is very hard to find without chips).  The only apologies this purse has is some missing enamel on the bars on the handle (see photos).  It is really minimal and not easy to see unless you are really looking for it.  All in all a fabulous purse!  Measures 4-7/8"" wide x 7" long from clasp to fringe tip.

This Whiting & Davis mesh purse features an iconic lighthouse on a seacliff design.  The frame is deco style with two shades of blue enameling and both sides are identical.  The inside is lined in a beige silk which is in excellent condition with one split where it folds over.  The mesh is all tight to the frame and there are no missing tiles.  The enameling on the frame is in mint condition with no chips or loss.  There may be some enamel rubs around the top edge or under the hinges but they are in the dark areas so it is hard to say for sure.  I would rate it as a 9+ out of 10.  Measures 4" wide x 7" long from clasp to fringe tip.

This has long been one of my favorite Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purses.  There is just something about this purse that I have always loved ... don't know if it is the colors, the awesome frame, or that unique fringe design, but I have owned it since 2006 and it's always had a prominent spot on display.  But time to rotate! :-)  The front and back are done in the tiniest Dresden mesh links and look like a watercolor.  The frame is enameled in green and red with a foldover embossed clasp which snaps closed tightly.  The handle is the atypical bar and link that W & D is known for and the bars are done in green enamel.  The enameling on the frame is in exceptionally fine condition with no chips whatsoever (very difficult to find like this!)  The enameling on the bar links in the handle are 99% perfect ... there is some very minor wear on some of them but most are very good.  The mesh is all tight to the frame and there is no wear to the color anywhere on the purse.  There was a lining in it at one time but it had been removed before I bought it and it is certainly not needed.  This is a stunning purse in exceptional condition and priced right as well!  Measures  4" wide x  5" wide across bottom x 6-1/4" long from clasp to bottom of fringe.

Here again is another very rare mesh purse by Whiting & Davis ... this one has a rigid mirror built into the inside of the frame.  I have only seen one or two of these over the years and none exactly like this one.  The frame is silver embossed with flowers on both sides and the enamel mesh is a beige color with art deco designs in hot pink, blus, yellow and chocolate brown.  The bottom is finished in a Vandyke style fringe in pink, blue, and yellow (the yellow is almost a chartreuse shade ... very pretty).  There are two hang tags inside, one for Whiting & Davis and the other stating El-Sah design.  Mesh is all tight to the frame and there is only enamel loss on a few of the tiles ... it is mostly perfect.  It is a larger than usual W & D purse measuring 5-1/4" wide at the frame x 7" long.

Princess Mary style purses -- meaning they have a foldover style flap -- have always appealed to me and I have had several variations of these over the years in my collection, this one being one of my favorites.  The frame front has a gold button type medallion in the center for decoration and beveled corners for accent.  But what really sets this one off is the gorgeous and rare Venetian Lace fringe which is finished below with another long lush chainlink fringe.  Awesome!  It is in excellent condition.  It is marked Whiting & Davis on one side of the frame.  The other side is marked Soldered Mesh and Made in Canada.  Whiting & Davis opened their Canadian factory in 1914 and the Princess Mary style purse was created in the 1920's.  Measures 5" wide at frame x 6" wide at fringe x 7 " long from top edge to bottom of fringe.

I just love the colors in the rare design Whiting & Davis mesh purse depicting a row of soldiers along the bottom edge.  The colors are so vibrant ... cobalt blue, orange, red, green on a cream background.  The gold frame is richly embossed with floral designs on both sides.  In fact, both sides are identical so there is technically no front or back.  Condition overall is very good ... there is a bit of a gap on the one side armpit and there may be some enamel wear to some of the tiles but nothing that is readily noticeable.  Has the original Whiting & Davis hang tag inside.  Measures 5-1/4" wide at the frame x 7" long.

This is a really great purse that is probably one of Whiting & Davis' earliest models.  I love it because of its HUGE size and the jeweled beaded handle on it.  The purse is done in black and white tiles in a geometric diagonal design with a diamond in the lower center.  Plus the fringe is super long and elegant.  The silvertone frame (which does tarnish like sterling even though it is not marked as such) is engraved in a beautiful design on both sides. And the long chain handle has 8 jet 'jewel' beads accenting it for added charm. Now as to condition ... it is far from perfect but it is beautiful even with these imperfections.  There are a few strands of the chainlink fringe missing ... if you wanted to replace these, it would be relative easy as they are just plain silver links.  There is a fair amount of enamel loss on the tiles of the purse; however, being silver tiles underneath, it really blends in quite well with the color of the purse overall and is not even noticeable unless you look closely (I am including two close-up pictures but bear in mind that it looks pretty good in person and you would not think that it was not made this way).  The only other apology is a bit of a gap under one of the hinges.  Again, this could be fairly easily repaired but not with my poor vision.  It's simply a matter of attaching a link or two to the frame.  Please view all the close-up pictures and draw your own conclusions. I love this purse and have had it for quite a while simply because it is so unique. Measures 6" wide at the frame x almost 13 " long.

This is just a superb purse with a double-sided jeweled frame.  I am not a gemologist so I don't know what the large stones are but they look like star sapphires to me.  The smaller blue stones are sapphire jewels.  The mesh is such a pretty color blue with pink, pale green, pale peach and black designs.  Since both sides are the same with only slightly different placement of the design, front and back are interchangeable.  The fringe is done in a striped effect in colors from the purse.  It is unmarked but I suspect it is an early Whiting & Davis as the handle is their signature bar and chainlink style.  All in all it is a great purse in excellent condition!  Be sure to check out all the pictures.  Measures 4" wide x 7" long from clasp to fringe tip.

I believe this is an unmarked Whiting & Davis mesh purse done in silver fine ring mesh.  It does tarnish and polish just like sterling silver but I am unable to find any silver hallmarks; however, it is my opinion that it is sterling.  The sides have a slide-lock mechanism that when held by the beautiful braided handle (be sure to see pics), the rings slide up the sides and keep the purse locked closed.  To open it, you simply slide the rings down and release the sapphire jeweled clasp.  It is a very clever design and one that I have seen before on W & D purses, so that is why I assumed it was W & D.  What makes this purse super special is the beautiful Venetian lace fringe .. the ring mesh is designed in such a way that it resembles the finest Venetian laces done in Italy in the early last century.  It is in mint condition and is a real beauty!  Measures 2-34" wide at bottom of frame x 3-1/4" wide at fringe x 9-1/2 " long from top of clasp to bottom of fringe.

One of my favorite purses is this yellow background Dresden mesh by Whiting & Davis which features a hummingbird in flight sipping nectar from a beautiful bright pink flower.  The fringe on this one is so pretty ... and the handle is an adjustable braided wrist style with a sapphire jeweled clasp.  The hummingbird design is repeated on both sides.  The mesh is all in perfect condition with no missing or loose links ... the only flaw is a wee bit of wear to the color in a few strategic areas of the purse ... please see the photos which will clearly show the condition.  Overall it is great and a real showpiece!   Measures 2-1/2" wide at frame x 3-1/4" wide at fringe x 9 " long from top of clasp to bottom of fringe.

Another lovely purse by Mandalian with a very pretty arched frame embellished with open wreath clasp.  The lustro-pearl finish is in a pale champagne with turquoise, brick red and black swirling designs. It is finished with a stepped fringe with 9 turquoise enameled teardrop dangles. Enameling on the purse is in mint condition and it is all attached firmly to the frame. The only apology is some flecks missing on the teadrop dangles as seen in the close-ups of both sides. Measures 4-1/2" wide x 9-1/4" long from clasp to fringe tip.

I just love this purse! It is a Whiting & Davis figural purse with two exotic birds in the lower corners on both sides. In the center is a vase overflowing with vibrantly colored flowers. The bottom of the purse appears to have had chain fringe at one time ... a previous owner probably removed them because some were missing.  If someone wanted to redo this, it would not be that difficult but I have never felt the need to as the purse is so pretty as it is.  There is some wear to the enamel scattered throughout, but due to all of the bright colors, it's really not noticeable.  The blue enameled frame is in great condition on both front and back with no enamel loss at all.   Mesh is gapping a bit at the armpits but not bad.  Signed Whiting & Davis on the inner frame.  This is a rare design that I have never had before nor seen elsewhere.  It's a great piece!   Measures 5 " wide x 7" long from clasp to fringe.

Another lovely purse by Mandalian with a very pretty openwork frame embellished with enameled flowers.  The design is unusual one with what looks like ivy on the bottom half. The background is a creamy white with turquouise, green and copper designs.  And of course it is all done in the beautiful Lustro-Pearl finish.  The fringe is a stepped design with turquoise teardrop dangles which are in near perfect condition (see pics for close-ups).  All in all it is in excellent condition throughout! Measures 4-1/4" wide x 8-1/4" long from clasp to fringe tip.

Another lovely purse by Mandalian with unusual hot pink teardrop dangle fringe. The frame is embossed with pretty flowers and acanthus leaves. The body of the purse is a creamy white background with teal and pink diamonds and rosettes and a leafy scrolling design across the bottom.  The fringed portion has an elongated center section which I have rarely seen on these ... it is a very exaggerated drop.  Finished off in 8 hot pink dangles. Overall the purse is in excellent condition with only a few minuscule nicks on the dangles almost not even worth mentioning.  It is in truly fine condition throughout! Measures 4-1/2" wide x 8-1/2" long from clasp to fringe tip.

I'm not exactly sure how to refer to this purse so I am calling it a "metallic" finish ... the silver portion of the mesh purse is all done in highly polished silver tiles that sparkle and shine. The roses and gold portion are enameled in the usual manner which gives it a wonderful contrast to the polished tiles. The frame is finished in black and gold enamel to match the purse. It is quite a striking purse and one I have not seen another like.  It is in excellent condition with no missing or loose tiles. It is unlined ... someone has engraved the name A.L.WADE on the inside of the frame so I guess that was a previous owner. The handle is a very interesting heavy chain which I have not seen on another purse either. This is just a totally unique and beautiful purse. Measures 4" wide at the frame x 7 " long.

This is a very beautiful purse and unlike any I have ever seen before. In fact it has been in my personal collection for quite a few years and I am not ready to part with it. The frame is shaped in multiple scallops culminating in a center medallion with a figural image of the Holy Mother Mary holding a baby Jesus in her arms. Surrounding her are several tiny angels all facing her. Inside the purse there is a "secret" compartment built into the frame which can hold pills or a few small coins. It does not have a visible catch hence my description of "secret". The frame is stamped "ALPACA" denoting that it is made of Alpaca silver. The bottom is finished off in tiny bead ball fringe. As for condition: there are a few areas where the links have separated creating tiny holes but overall these are not very noticeable or significant and it is possible that a jeweler or someone with better eyes than mine could simply reattach them. It is a rather large purse for mesh measuring 4-1/2" wide at the frame x 5" wide at the bottom x 8-1/2" long from clasp to center bead fringe. The handle adds another almost 7" in height.

This gorgeous purse has been in my collection for several years now and I am reluctant to part with it but it is time.  In I just love the style of this one ... it has a beautiful enameled mesh center panel which reaches from frame to the V shape bottom and either side is done in tiny ring mesh.  Each side panel has ruffly ring mesh fringe which sets off the center section perfectly!  The frame is not marked sterling; however it must have significant silver content as it does tarnish and polish like sterling.  There are two sapphire jewels in the clasp.  It is marked on the inside of the frame Whiting & Davis.  This beautiful purse is in near perfect condition with all mesh intact and only a wee bit of wear to the enamel at the very bottom of the back side.  Measures 2-7/8 " wide at hinge, 3-1/2" wide at bottom of fringe when hanging, and 8 " long from clasp to fringe.

Even though this particular purse is not signed by Whiting & Davis, I have had this identical one in my collection before which was signed W & D so I am going to say that it was manufactured by them.  It is stamped soldered mesh however. The design is definitely art deco influenced and it is done in the finest of Dresden mesh in pretty, vibrant colors.  You have to look at that fringe ... it is spectacular and very full.  There is some very minor wear to the frame but other than that this entire purse is in fabulous condition. Interior is lined in pale green silk also in perfect condition.   Measures 5" wide x 9" long from clasp to fringe.

In all my years of collecting, I have never run across another like this one. It has been in my collection for several years but I am now passing it along for another person to enjoy. Believe it or not, it is signed by Whiting & Davis and it is soldered mesh. The colors on the purse resemble watercolor they are so liquid looking in the way they ebb and flow. The frame is just extraordinary! Heavy openworked acanthus leaves with an arched scalloped shape at the purse edge. At each little curve is a beaded dangle. The clasp is set with a blue sapphire. Both sides of the frame are identical and the beads repeat on the back as well. Interior is lined in pale gold silk with tiny ruched pocket. The colors from the purse extend down into the long chainlink drop fringe. Chain handle is the typical bar and chainlink style W & D is known for.  This entire purse is in fantastic condition with no missing links, tears, or damage of any kind. This gorgeous Mandalian mesh purse comes from my private collection and is a pattern that is much sought-after by collectors -- the Peacock design!  The purse is a champagne color with rich shades of blue and gold all in shiny lustro-pearl finish.  The frame on this one is extraordinary with beautiful enameled floral design and it is done this way on both sides. The interior is lined in silk and the fringe is a gold chainlink. There are a few missing strands in the fringe as seen in the photos but these can be easily replaced. With the exception of that, the purse is in excellent condition with no loss to the enamel tiles. Measures 5" wide x 9" long from clasp to fringe.

Mandalian makes some of the finest mesh purses you will ever run across and this one is in a rarely found Mosaic design in lustro-pearl finish.  Lovely shades of turquoise and black on a silvery pearly background ... just stunning!  The frame is embossed with openwork corners and the fringe is Van Dyke style chainlinks. Both sides of the purse have the same exact design. Overall in excellent condition ... only problem worth mentioning is a bit of detachment on one armpit near the hinge but not bad at all.  Enameling is all excellent! Measures 4-1/4" wide x 9" long from clasp to fringe.

RARE Design Lustro Pearl Mandalian w/Drop Fringe and Mosaic Enameled Frame

Mandalian mesh purses are rarely found with completely enameled frames, and when I find them, I usually keep them in my own collection. The design is one I have not seen on another bag ... it has a Lustro Pearl finish and the teardrops are enameled in red. Interior is lined in silk which is in great shape but the threads holding it to the frame have come loose and there are just a few strands holding it in place. The drops have some wear and a few look like they may have been touched up by a previous owner ... I am leaving them alone as they look fine just as they are. If you want to redo them, that would be your choice. Measures 4-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" long including fringe.

Lustro-Pearl Mandalian with Turquoise Dangles

Mandalian made some of the most beautiful bags you will find, and this one is no exception. The beautiful lustro-pearl finish made it impossible to capture the true colors of this wonderful mesh purse. The background is a light champagne with soft plum, orange and turquoise designs enhancing the front and back. The bottom is stepped, and at each corner hangs a turquoise teardrop dangle. Silver frame is embossed with delicate flowers and vines, and interior is lined in cream silk. The condition is very fine with only the slightest separation of the lining from the frame on one side about 1" long. The enameling is perfect and the dangles have very little, if any, wear at all. Measures 4-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" long. Gorgeous!

Mandalian Lustro-Pearl Mesh Purse with Teardrop Fringe in Unusual Indian Summer Colors

Here is another truly marvelous Mandalian lustro-pearl mesh purse with my favorite teardrop fringe. This one is done in unusual colors of an Indian summer with a deep ecru background, coppery bronze, deep teal, and black. The teardrops are done in an Indian red shade to match the purse. The frame and chainlink handle on this one are unusual in that they are gold tone rather than silver. This picks up the shimmery tones of the purse to utmost advantage. Interior is lined in a beige silk that is in perfect shape, it has just pulled away from the frame about halfway around. This should be a simple restitching job for nimble fingers ;-). The fringe is near perfect with ony two tiny flecks missing on two of the tips ... these are only visible if looked upon from the bottom. It is a truly stunning purse and one I have not seen before. Measures 4-1/2" wide x nearly 10" long!

Rare Pictorial Mandalian 'Vase of Flowers' with Cathedral Frame

Wow! What a stunning enamel mesh purse this one is ... made by Mandalian, it features a lovely vase of flowers on both sides and gorgeous framework done in enameling all around it. Set off with an ornately embossed cathedral shaped frame, this is truly one of Mandalian's finest examples. That is why I purchased it even though several of the chainlink fringes were missing. These are easily enough repaired and this purse is so rare that it was worth purchasing regardless of the fringe. Enameling is in excellent condition and mesh is all tight to the frame. There is one detached link under the hinge on one side, but this is very minor and not visible unless upon close inspection. Overall I would rate it an 8 out of 10 condition-wise. Very bright and vivid colors! Measures 3-1/2" wide at fringe x 8" long.

Figural Mandalian Mesh Purse with Birds of Paradise

Very popular design by Mandalian featuring a pair of Birds of Paradise intertwined into the design. Lovely colors of coral, teal, and red on a creamy background. Entire purse is in excellent condition with no enamel loss that I can see. Only problem anywhere is a few tiny rings missing from the two end fringes (one on either side). This should be easy enough to replace. All links are tight to the frame as well. Measures 3-3/4" wide x 8" long overall.

This Mandalian mesh purse has one of the prettiest frames that I have seen. It is quite large and very ornately embossed ... just a knockout! Purse is enameled in snowy white with red, coral, and gray/green fading to almost black at the tips. Interior is lined in original off-white silk and is in very good condition. The enameling is all perfect. There are a few tiles that have become unlinked at each hinge but not detrimental to the purse in any way (visible in pic). There are three chainlink fringes missing and two that are a bit shorter, but these are spaced evenly and not really noticeable. Measures 4-1/2" wide at frame x 9" long to bottom of fringe.

This is a stunning Mandalian mesh purse with the sparkly Lustro-Pearl finish in a rare size and design. Beautifully done in cream with blue, orange and black floral designs on both front and back. Frame is embossed in a very detailed design and the fringe is a stepped version of their typical "V" fringe. Interior is lined in purple silk with some splits but overall mostly intact. Original tag inside which reads "Fascinating New Creation - The 'Lustro-Pearl' Bag - This bag is finished with Essence of Pearl, a very costly solution heretofore confined to High-Grade Pearl Necklaces, can now be had on Mandalian Mesh Bags. Notice its lustrous and silky finish originated and made only by Mandalian Mfg. Com. Lustro-Pearl Bags are positively guaranteed to wear well and Pearl Enamel does not chip off." The outside of the bag is all in mint condition! Measures 4-1/2" wide at frame x just a bit over 8" in length overall.

Rare Mandalian "Gloria" Bracelet Style Lustro Pearl Mesh Purse

Another one of Mandalian's hard-to-find styles: the Gloria bracelet frame! This one is in lustro pearl finish with emerald green and coppery brown and black on a cream background. Diamond embossed designs surround the bracelet frame and clasp flips up to open the purse. Bracelet is a spring-band that pops open when the clasp is released. These purses are so hard to find that I bought it even with the missing chainlink fringes (as these are easily enough replaced). Enameling is in excellent conditon; a few links are detached on either side right at corners (see interior pic). Measures 4-1/4" wide x 8" long to tip of fringe.

Rare Mandalian "Gloria" Bracelet Style Lustro Pearl Mesh Purse

Very hard to come by, this is one of Mandalian's most desirable purses. Known as the "Gloria" bracelet purse, the name comes from the fact that the frame opens like a bracelet on a type of built-in spring. The finger-snapover closure lifts up and back to open. Vibrant colors in excellent shape are identical on both sides. There are some fringe links missing, but it is very hard to determine as they hang so closely together. Overall the purse is in excellent condition with no damage to the mesh other than very minor paint loss on a few tiles near the top corners which blend in to the darker colors around them. Purse measures 4-1/2" wide x 8" long to bottom of fringe.

When they say "good things come in small packages," they must have had this little darling in mind! One of Mandalian's scarcest purses is this adorable little mesh purse with its original tag proclaiming it to be a "Martha Washington Bag, Latest Style, Mandalian Mfg. Co." Just large enough to hold a compact and some change, this little sweetie is yellow with blue and black trim, yellow silk top, and yellow drawstrings tipped with filigreed metal baubles. And the fringe consists of little Van Dyke triangles tipped with tiny silver beads. It is a delight to see and hold, and in unused, MINT condition! Where will you ever see another? Measures a miniscule 3-1/4" wide x 6" long.

Mandalian Mesh Purse with Unusual Openwork Embossed Frame and Teardrop Dangle Fringe

This is a very unusual Mandalian mesh purse in a style and colors that are rarely found. Finish is lustro-pearl, and the frame is a widened "A" style openwork embossed design. Two-level Van-dyke fringe is tipped with teardrop dangles. Overall the purse is in excellent condition. Upon very close inspection, however, there is some enamel loss on the tiles right against the frame and along the edges of the purse. It blends in so well with the colors as to really be unnoticeable and is insignificant in a purse of this rarity. The teardrop dangles are a nice deep patina in a bronze shade. Colors on purse are creamy background and flowers with orange centers and petals of green, black and rust. There are one or two links loose right under the hinge that could be easily re-attached by someone with better vision than I! All in all, a great purse in a hard-to-find example. Measures 4-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" long to bottom of fringe.

Mandalian Figural Cockatoos Mesh Purse with Embossed Frame

This is one of my favorite Mandalian figural enamel mesh purses ... the beautiful teals and rust on the creamy background make such an appealing combination. A pair of feathered cockatoos are facing each other at the bottom of the purse and blend into the design perfectly. Enamel on this one is in excellent condition with only one tile missing color, and that is right at the hinge. The A-frame is embosssed on both sides with ornate flowers and scrolling feathers. All of the fringe chains are there, and all of the mesh is tight to the frame. In fact, the only thing that needs mentioning is that one tile has come loose from its sister right at the hinge (visible in close-up of frame) and needs to be reattached. I may be able to do it with a magnifier, but haven't tried yet. Other than that, the purse is MINT and truly gorgeous. Measures 3-1/2" wide x 8" long to bottom of fringe.

Mandalian Mesh Purse in Unusual Colors with Ornate Gold Embossed Frame

This a very pretty Mandalian mesh purse in a very pretty shade of aqua green with hunter green, gold, and coral designs. Set off with an embossed gold frame and gold fringe, it is a delight to behold. Truly a very lovely purse and one I haven't seen before. Overall in very good condition with only one strand of fringe missing ... this shouldn't be too hard to replace as it is just a simple chain link. eve is original ... to my eyes, this purse is in mint condition and does not appear to have ever been used. Measures 5-1/4" wide at frame x just a bit over 8" in length overall. Box is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".

Rare Mandalian "Gloria" Bracelet Style Lustro Pearl Mesh Purse

This is a very lovely Mandalian purse with the Gloria "bracelet" style frame. Done in lustro-pearl finish, the enameling on this purse is quite pretty ... the front side is a little bit lighter than the back. I've seen this often on Mandalian Gloria purses, even to the extent where the colors are completely different from one side to the other. In any event, the purse is very pretty. The links are all tight to the frame, the spring in the frame and the clasp are in excellent condition with no warping or looseness. The only apology is one strand of fringe which is missing some links (an easy repair if you have the links). Measures 4-1/4" wide at frame x 8" long to bottom of fringe.

Rare Pictorial Mandalian 'Vase of Flowers' Mesh Purse with Cathedral Frame

This is a lovely Mandalian mesh purse with vase of flowers on the front and back. This one is done in very unusual colors of gold, Indian Summer red, and green on a cream background which gives the purse a very autumnish feel. The enameling has a lustro-pearl look to it and the frame and fringe are gold. This is a beautiful mesh bag and it is in perfect condition throughout. Design is straight, not crooked as the scan makes it look. Measures 3-1/2" wide at frame x 8" in length overall.

This is my mystery Whiting & Davis pouch style purse ... it's in the shorter/wider style of Paul Poiret's designs, but it is done in Beadlite instead of armor mesh.   Beadlite refers to a style of beads that Whiting & Davis developed to resemble glass beads ... instead of flat mesh tiles, each little tile is rounded with a dome shape.  This is a very rare style purse that I have not been able to find anywhere.  It's definitely an earlier piece.  Interior is lined in white silk that shows some wear and is detached from the frame a bit.  However, ALL of the mesh is tight to the frame and is in very good condition.  Some very minor enamel loss on the tops of the domes mostly around the outer edges ... not very noticeable at all ... overall color is very good.  Measures 5" wide at frame x 7-3/4" long.

Wow! Look at this incredible little decorative mesh purse .... it is marked sterling and has an overlay of gold ... very rare!  The unique frame is heavily embellished with gradient sized beaded balls, of which there are a few missing. There is a center jade stone, and two white stones which appear to be a type of baroque pearl. At the top of the bracelet-length chain there is a jeweled charm with a turquoise stone in the center. The bottom is finished with four tassel-shaped dangles. With the exception of the few missing beads on the frame, this purse is in excellent condition!  Measures 4" wide x 5-1/2" long counting frame and dangles. Chain to top is another 3-1/2".

This is one of Whiting & Davis' finest Dresden mesh purses ... at least in my humble opinion.  The frame on this purse is just stunning with it's rich enameled colors and marcasites inlaid all around.  And the bonus is that both sides are the same!   This particular purse features a yellow vase of flowers in abstract fashion and large flowers cascading from it.  Bar and link chain has enameled decoration which does show some loss.  The enameling on the frame is very nearly perfect with only one very small chip on the upper right corner on the "back" side.  There are a total of four tiny marcasites missing but these are almost impossible to notice.  Interior is lined beige silk in perfect condition with tiny smocked pocket.  Needs to be retacked to the corners by the hinge, otherwise perfect.  And the price is a bargain ... I have sold these for as high as $799 in the past.   Measures approximately 5-1/4" wide x 9" long to bottom of fringe.

This is a very unusually shaped Whiting & Davis mesh purse with a modified cathedral frame and sapphire jeweled clasp.  It is oversized, measuring 5" wide x 8" long and has a very pretty Art Nouveau design on the front.  Colors are white background with teal stripes, pink and teal design in center outlined with black curlicues.  There is a cascade at the top with roses above each.  Striped Van Dyke fringe finishes the purse.  This is such a pretty purse and so unique that I purchased it for my personal collection even though it has enamel loss in several areas.  It blends in well with the design and really isn't very noticeable at a glance ... purse is priced accordingly.

Here is a striking Whiting & Davis ring mesh purse in near mint condition. This is an earlier purse ... size is much smaller than their later purses. Very dramatic black deco swirling design on silvery background makes this purse stand out from the rest. The frame is a simple black on silver and is in perfect condition. In fact, the only flaw anywhere on this purse is three links that have come detached by one hinge. Measures 3-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" long. Elegant in its simplicity!

This is a very unusual and rare purse in very tiny gold ring mesh and a stunning filigreed and jeweled frame.  I can't find a maker's name on it, so I'm not certain or the origin.  It is extremely fine quality with 13 prong-set crystal jewels all around the frame and 4 on the filigreed clasp ... 17 jewels in all!  The interior is lined in cream silk and the interior of the frame is embossed with a lovely acanthus leaf design.  Bottom of purse is finished in Van Dyke fringe.   This purse came from a private local collection and has not been offered publicly before.  Purse is in excellent condition throughout and measures 5" wide at frame x 6-1//2" long not counting chain handle.

This rare large size Whiting & Davis dresden mesh purse is absolutely one of my very favorites ... I just love the soft pastel colors that resemble a fine impressionistic painting.  The frame is stunning ... bright gold with beautiful embossed details including a fabulous high clasp surround for the pushbutton.  The handle is a combination bar and ring and the bars are all intricately embossed as well.  The back of the frame has the same design as the front.  Interior is lined in pale gold silk which needs tacked down on one side about an inch on either side ... not a hard job.  Overall, the entire purse is in impeccable condition with no damage or wear to the beautiful colors at all.  The size is absolutely the biggest I have ever seen for a Dresden mesh ... it measures 5-1/2" wide at frame x almost 9-1/2" in length overall.  At the very bottom, it measures 7" across.  Note how the fringe hangs in a ruffled effect ... very pretty!

Isn't this just one of the sweetest little purses you've ever seen?  It just reminds me of Easter with its beautiful pink, purple, orange and yellow flowers!  Both sides are identical and the fringe hangs like a little ruffle.  The silver frame is prettily embossed in an acanthus leaf design.  Interior is lined in white silk and the entire purse is in perfect condition!  Measures 4" wide at frame x 6-1/2" long.

I do have a lot of purses I describe as "rare" but this is because that is what I collect so you will find many unusual and hard-to-find purses in my offerings. This is one of the most unusual and unique Whiting & Davis mesh purses I have ever had.   Base mesh is all gold and the enameling on the purse is black with yellow, white & green florettes and accents.  The most unusual thing about it, though, is the rare frame which is finished the same on both sides.  It is elegantly embossed and has black enameling on either side of a center vignette with tiny hand-painted pink roses enameled right under the clasp.  There is a jet black jewel in the clasp itself.   The enameling is all in perfect condition with no loss that I can see, and all the mesh is tightly attached to the frame.  Handle is made of beautiful gold embossed bars.  Measures  4" wide x 8" long overall.

It's not often that you will find another of these highly unusual oversized Whiting & Davis mesh purses. This one has a silverplate frame with engraved designs on both front and back. Plating is excellent and polishes up beautifully. The design on the purse features a single rose in the center of a teal background, four roses in the corners, and little rosebuds all across theVandyke fringe. It is in superb condition with 99.9% of the enameling intact. Mesh is all tight to the frame, but if you look with a magnifying glass, some of the spiral metal wire is missing. The mesh is still tight with no gaps visible as it is so closely done. Measures 6" wide at the bottom x 9-1/2" long. It is an extraordinary piece!

This darling little purse was made by Whiting & Davis and is in perfect condition! Gorgeous colors of purple and coral with black accents on a snow white background make it a stunning purse. Clusters of purple berries or flowers grace both front and back in a random design. Frame is embossed with flowers and vines on both sides. On the side "seam" on each side is a single row of tiles in between the colored design. On one side, this 'stripe' is white while on the other the tiles are unpainted. This appears to be original to the way the purse was made rather than wear as the painted tiles on either side of this single row are perfect. In any case, it is along the side and doesn't show from either front or back. Has Whiting & Davis metal hang-tag inside; no lining. Measures 4" wide x 7" long.

We have a few variations of hummingbird Dresden mesh purses available right now, but none in this color combination or style. The frame on this purse is extra wide, being nearly 5" across. It is very finely done with delicate embossed designs on both front and back. Interior is lined in beige silk in perfect shape with only a few pale lipstick rubs. The mesh and lining are tightly affixed to the frame with no loose linkage. In fact, the entire purse is in near mint condition. Even the little chain handle has embossed bars to match the frame. When held in your hand, the fringe hangs in ruffled folds ... this one is a beauty! Measures approximately 5" x 6-1/2" long.

Here we have a pretty little Dresden mesh purse that was made in Germany.  The clasp has two jade colored beads ... not sure what the material is -- could be plastic, bakelite or possibly real jade.  Purse is done in tiny ring mesh with Van Dyke fringe.  There is pale green and red/orange silk-screen designs on the mesh and the frame has traces of red/orange enameling.  There is minor wear on this but the mesh is all intact and in great shape.  Interior is lined and that is also in very good condition.   Measures 4" wide at frame x 7" long to bottom of fringe.

This is one of the prettiest Sunset mesh purses I have had.  It resembles a Whiting & Davis style but this one was made in Germany.  It has a saphire jeweled clasp and very prety embossed frame with pale green enameling.  The body of the purse is done in gold, silver and bronze stripes ... thus the sunset name.  Pretty gold link chain tops it off.  Interior is lined in soft blue cotton in excellent condtion. In fact, the entire purse is in mint condition with not a bit of wear or color loss to the purse or any missing rings.  The mesh is so finely done it feels like silk.   Measures 4" wide at frame x  6" long.

From the home of an elderly lady in our area comes this terrific little Dresden mesh purse with a terrific enameled Art Deco frame.  She told us it was her "lucky" purse as she was carrying it when she met her husband.  The colors are pink, yellow, orange, blue and green with just a hint of lilac.  The frame is enameled in cloisonne' fashion with yellow and green.  There are two sapphires -- most likely real as these usually were -- in the clasp.  Interior is lined in ivory silk.  It is in excellent condition!  And beautiful!  We feel "lucky" to have it!   Measures 4" x 5-1/4" to bottom of Van Dyke fringe

The word "rare" will be frequently found on my website because that is what I specialize in ... rare and unusual purses.  I try not to purchase common pieces, so what you see here will be the best of the best.  And this one is no exception!  Never ran across this purse before ... it is a Whiting & Davis very large size mesh in a beautiful pale yellow shade with green center panel.  Bottom is bordered in black with pink flowers ending in Vandyke fringe.  The center panel of the front contains a rigid "puffy" area that is actually embossed into the mesh to give the flowers a 3-dimensional look.  The back has the same green panel but without the flowers in the center.  This is done on a gold-base mesh rather than silver and is finished with an embossed gold frame.   The original round beveled mirror was still inside the purse.  Measures 5" wide at frame, 9-1/2" long, and 6-1/2" wide across the bottom.  It is an OUTSTANDING purse!

Here we have a very unusual Whiting & Davis Beadlite purse with a terrific Art Deco influenced scenic design of a row of houses done in abstract design with pink roofs and smoke coming from the chimneys.  It's a design I have never seen before.  Beadlite refers to a style of beads that Whiting & Davis developed to resemble glass beads ... instead of flat mesh tiles, each little tile is rounded with a dome shape.  The frame is embossed with a pebble finish and has black enameling on both front and back.  Front is perfect but back has one small chip in the black ... shown in photo of back.  There is also a section of mesh along the front side that has come loose from the wire attaching it to the frame (four holes wide).  This can probably be repaired but I am not able to do it.  Body of purse has very good color retention with no missing tiles or loose links.  This purse came from a private local collection and has not been offered publicly before.  Purse measures 5" wide at frame x 6" long to bottom of fringe.

Here we have a very rare and unusual Whiting & Davis mesh purse ... this one has a lovely teal colored background with blue and pink flowers accented with black and outlined in silver ... it is truly exquisite.  The frame is the only one of its kind I have ever seen with three diamond-shaped stones set into the frame clearly visible from both sides.  Fringe is Van Dyke style in blue and silver stripes ... back of frame is embossed with flowers and vines.  What a beauty!  No damage or enamel loss that I can see ... near perfect condition.  Still has W & D hang tag inside.  Measures a large 5-1/4" wide x 7-1/2" long.

This fine Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse has wonderful colors of teal, orange, purple, pink, green, yellow, fuchsia & numerous others in a depiction of roses.  The striped effect in the fringe is just magnificent, especially considering that the geometric stepped fringe is rare to find in these purses!   Plain shaped gold frame is accented by a bar and link handle with embossed designs on the bars.  Interior is lined in pale peach silk with ruched pocket.  Lining is torn in a few places and needs some stitches replaced where it joins the frame ... all minor when considering that the important part -- the mesh -- is all perfect.  Colors are as bright and vivid as the scan shows ... wow!  Measures 4" wide x 7" long to tip of fringe.

>This is one of the prettiest Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purses that I have owned ... I just love the soft colors in the flowers and particularly in the soft rainbow stripes in the pointed VanDyke fringe.  The inside is lined in a lovely pale lilac silk with tiny ruched pocket which still holds its original round beveled mirror.  The snakelink chain handle sets off the deco embossed frame perfectly!  This purse is in fantastic condition with no apologies anywhere ... back of purse is identical to front.  Excellent colors and all mesh is attached firmly to frame.  Just a beauty!   Measures  5" wide x 9" long overall.

This is one of Whiting & Davis' most attractive Dresden mesh purses (in my humble opinion) and is from my personal collection.  I just love the soft colors of pink, green, purple and coral and the way the flowers 'drape' down from the frame.  And these same colors are picked up again in a rainbow pattern across the Van Dyke fringe.  The beautiful bright gold frame is elegantly embossed and has a high stand-up filigreed snap clasp.  Embossed bar and chain link handle finishes it off.  Interior is lined in lavender silk with tiny ruched pocket ... and the original round beveled mirror -- albeit beginning to fog from age -- is still inside!  This purse has absolutely no apologies ... it is as perfect as the day it was made.  Nice large size - measures 5" wide at frame x 8" long to tip of fringe.

This wonderful Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse has one of my favorite types of fringe:  the stepped version which is matched by the stepped clasp.  This is a fine example of deco styling and dates the purse to the 20's or early 30's.  Look at the lovely watercolor roses on the front and the purple flower down in the lower corner.  All of these colors kind of 'melt' down into the fringe giving it a rainbow effect.  The interior is lined in cream silk with the original round beveled mirror.  The silk has pulled away from the frame near the hinges and has a few splits, but overall is in very good condition.  Original W & D hang tag can be found inside.  Mesh is in excellent condition and is all tight to the frame ... there is very minor color loss here and there but the pictures very accurately show the condition of the purse.  Measures  4" wide x  7" long from clasp to tip of fringe.

This is a lovely little Dresden baby-mesh purse by Whiting & Davis.  The colors are all vivid and excellent, and the frame is an embossed STERLING silver (stamped on inside frame).  On one side by the hinge, four links have come loose from the frame but the attachment rings are still there, so this would be an easy repair. The mesh itself is in fantastic condition with no holes or tears.  Unusual size, too: measures 4" wide x 4-1/4" long.  A nice addition to any collection!

I've seen many Whiting & Davis purses over the years but I have never seen this design before.  It has impressionistic daisies on a background of earthtones with hints of green.  The reverse side (although there really is no front or back, both sides are identical) shows more green than the front.  The frame is one of the prettiest I have seen with very detailed ornate filigree work.  Mesh is all in great condition with no missing rings or holes.  Two of the rings that attach at the hinge have separated from the frame but these are so tiny they are less than 1/8".   Measures 3-1/2" wide at frame x  7" long.

This wonderful RARE style mesh purse was made by Whiting & Davis and is one of their earlier designs.  Featuring a fold-over silver scalloped frame with original silk carrying cord -- with adjustable slide -- and beaded tassel.  Mesh is a baby blue shade with black diamonds accented with white centers.  It is very cute!  Purse is all original and in pretty good condition ... there is one area under the flap on the upper right corner which has been repainted prior to our purchasing ... this does not show with the flap down, only when open (see photos).  Other than that, purse is in great condition.  There are no missing or loose tiles.  Because of the  repaint, we are offering this for a VERY reasonable price ;-)   Measures 4-1/4" wide x 4" long (purse body) x 7-1/2" long counting tassel.

Here we have an absolutely marvelous Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse in wonderful colors of pink, blue and green in abstract designs.  I have often seen this purse referred to as the "Cat" ... I guess because of its resemblance to a cat's face with roses where the eyes would be and its large abstract ears.  The frame is true period deco style in gold with stepped clasp and snake chain.  And the fringe is to die for ... fantastic double layer Van Dyke with rainbow shaded link fringe below.  It is truly awesone!  Interior is lined in a champagne silk with tiny pocket and is all in excellent condition.  No apologies anywhere at all ... it is in fabulous condition!  Measures  5" wide  at frame, 6" wide at bottom, and 10" long from clasp to tip of fringe.

Here is a very rare piece ... an oversized bag by El-Sah featuring a lovely scalloped frame with sapphire jeweled closure.  The purse has a white background and sports a red and black art deco design.  Enameling is 99%+ condition with very little loss of color anywhere.  The purse is designed to hang in tiny little pleated folds from the frame giving it a ruffled effect (scan flattened these down but when hanging loose it drapes in a lovely way).  The frame is silverplate with a teeny bit of wear right at the tip of the clasp where some of the base copper shows through.  Otherwise, it is in great shape.  Mesh is all tight to the frame with the exception of a few links on either side at hinges disconnected ... less than 1/4" and barely discernible.   Measures 6" wide at bottom  x 10" long to bottom of fringe.  A truly great piece and one you don't see every day!

As you all know by now, I do love the unusual! What turns my head in a mesh purse is when I run across one that I haven't seen before ... and this one certainly fits the bill! Done in three colors of mesh -- gold, bronze & silver, known as "Sunset mesh", this one not only has an unusual frame with a jeweled clasp and braided wrist handle but also is finished with the extremely rare Venetian lace fringe, a personal favorite of mine. It is called Venetian lace because the tiny mesh rings are intricately linked together to create a lacy design like the finest lace from Venice. The pretty gold frame is beautifully embossed and topped with a blue sapphire clasp. Interior is lined in ivory silk in excellent condition. Mesh is perfect with no missing links or holes. Measures 1-3/4" wide at top of frame, 2-1/2" wide across bottom of frame, 3-1/2" wide across bottom x almost 9-1/2" long not counting handle.

This is a very rare Whiting & Davis Dresden mesh purse in all gold with a sapphire jeweled clasp and lovely Venetian lace inset fringe. It comes with a braided handle with a double slide to adjust it to fit your wrist ... what an elegant accompaniment to wear dancing!  It's unique slim frame opens quite deep to access to this elongated purse.  Frame is richly embossed on both sides.  Overall, the purse is in perfect condition with no loose or missing links anywhere.  It is all tight to the frame and the Venetian lace is as good as they get.  Measures only 1-3/4" wide at the bottom of the frame x 9" long.  Handle is another 6" and purse measures 3" wide across the bottom.
