Antique Victorian Hand-Painted Dresser Jar or Jewelry Casket on Frosted Glass Well over 100 years old, this beautiful Victorian era dresser jar (or jewelry casket) is done on frosted glass. It has yellow and gold paint and hand-painted florals on the lid and 3 sides (back is plain). There are raised curlicues all around the jar and lid and it is so feminine looking! The sides of the jar have slightly convex shapes rather than being straight up and down. Great piece for your dresser to hold your bigger valuables. There is some paint loss as would be expected for an item almost a century and a half old, but there are no chips or cracks. Measures 5-3/4" diameter at the edge of lid, 6" diameter at the bottom, 5-1/4" diameter at the inside rim, and a bit over 4-1/2" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Gorgeous Peach Irisdescent Powder Jar with Gold Gilt Lid and Merino Puff Inside This is a beautiful peach iridescent glass powder jar with a fancy gold gilt lid with etched circles. The colors are just so pretty! I can't swear that this lid came with the base but it was on it when I purchased it in the estate years ago and I've kept it in my collection since that time (pre 2000!). Now it's time to pass it along to the next owner. The puff inside was added by me some years ago but it has never been used. This lovely jar is in excellent condition with the exception of some of the gold gilt on the finial being rubbed off (one side is better than the other for display). All in all it's a gorgeous piece and could be used as a covered candy if desired. Measures 5-1/4" diameter x 3-1/4" deep (bowl). The lid adds another 3-1/4" to the overall height. . Fancy Engraved "Joan of Arc" Mixed Metals Trinket Box This is a rare and unique trinket box done in mixed metals of copper and brass. It depicts a highly detailed engraved bust of Joan of Arc on the lid with the words "Joanne D'Arc" above it and "L. Bottini, Del-Gr" beneath. The bust is done in copper and the surround is brass. I am not sure the significance of the signature beneath. L. Bottini could be the engraver but I have not been able to locate any information about him/her. If you know, please feel free to share. It is a truly beautiful little box that measures 2" diameter x 3/4" deep. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Beautiful Sterling Silver Trinket Box with Hand-Painted Enamel Guilloche Flowers Dated 1896 This beautiful little trinket box defies its age ... it looks brand new but I had Marks4Antiques research the hallmarks for me and it dates to 1896. Here is what they said: The lid closes but does not snap so would not be usable in a purse, just setting on a dresser or display shelf. The silver is fairly heavy and the piece is hallmarked inside the lid and the base. The enamel guilloche covers the entire lid and is in excellent condition. There are some dents around the bottom of the rounded base but this would be the least I would expect being this old. Measures approximately 1-3/4" diameter x 1" high. Opening is about 1-5/8" diameter.. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Lovely Sterling Silver Crystal and Enamel Guilloche Powder or Trinket Jar - Mappin & Webb, Birmingham, 1913 with Lamb's Wool Puff What a gorgeous little powder or trinket box this is! Cut crystal base is topped by a sterling silver light teal enamel guilloche design in an art deco pattern. It is beautifully shaped rather than being round. It was made by Mappin & Webb of Birmingham in 1913 (hallmarked on rim). It is in absolutely pristine condition with no damage whatsoever. Just gorgeous! Included is a lovely little lambswool puff with a tiny ribbon on it. Measures 1-3/4" diameter at lid which overhangs the base a bit x 1-3/8" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Gorgeous Art Nouveau Art Glass Powder Jar by Verlys France with Frosted Relief Butterfly Design and Merino Lamb's Wool Puff This fabulous art glass powder jar was made by Verlys in France and features high-relief butterflies on the lid in frosted glass. The design bears a strong Art Nouveau influence and dates from the 1930's. It is beautifully done and has a polished base (there are some wear scratches on the base) and the entire piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It has the original knob on top and is signed with the etched Verlys signature inside the jar. I am including a lovely brand new handmade 100% Merino wool fluffy puff (see photos). Measures 6-1/8" diameter at the rim, 6-5/8" diameter across the base, 1-1/2" high not counting the relief or knob. (Click on pic for more photos.) Trinket or Pill Box with Hand-Painted Birds on Cloisonné Enameled Panels & Jeweled Top This rare and very old trinket box is just a delight! There are little birds painted on all sides and doves on the lid. There is a deep pink jewel on the center of the top and the colors of the enamel are jewel tones of sapphire and emerald ... very pretty! I have no idea what the metal base is on this as there are no markings; however, the inside is done in gold wash with pretty embossed designs in the lid and on the bottom. I have never seen another like this and I would guess it to be well over 100 years old. The lid snaps closed tightly so it would be an excellent pill box. There is one area of missing enamel on the hinge on the back and one tiny dent on the bottom front. It's really an adorable little box. Shaped like an elongated octagon, it measures almost 1-1/2" x 1-1/8" x about 3/4" high give or take. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Lovely Claw-Foot Jeweled Hand-Painted Portrait Powder Box with Cobalt Blue Enamel Trim Made in Italy This stunning jewelry casket is just about as good as it gets! A beautiful hand-painted portrait of a maiden with upswept hair (probably done on ivory as it is under glass). She is surrounded by ornate embossing and inset with tiny jewels all the way around (one is missing). The cobalt enamel surrounding her is sprinkled with gold dust. The remainder of the box is trimmed in cobalt blue as well as more tiny jewels all the way around. The entire box is raised up on three detailed claw feet. When you open the box, there is a round beveled mirror in the lid and the bottom is done in gold gilt. I have added a pink maribou puff. It is marked "Made Italy" on the inner rim of the lid. Overall condition is extraordinarily good with only the one tiny stone missing in the small ones around the portrait (I didn't even notice it until I viewed the enlarged picture for this listing!). There is a dent in the bottom which is visible in the photos as well, but it doesn't impact its use. Perhaps it could be hammered out but I prefer to leave it as found. This beautiful box measures 3-1/8" diameter x 1-1/8" high. The claw feet protrude a bit further than the diameter of the box. Mirror has a bit of cloudiness from age but is totally usable. There is some darkening to the finish around the edges and around the bottom which may be able to be polished out but again, I prefer to leave condition as found. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Sterling Silver Japanese Engraved Patch or Trinket Box (att. to Tokugawa Shogunate) I purchased this amazing little box from a local auction several years ago. When I bought it, I was told it was sterling silver although there are no marks indicating such (probably due to its age). There was an original inked description found inside the box which read "Made for a member of the Tokugawa Shogunate for whom this crest was reserved." In researching this further, I found and printed out the information regarding the crest which was from Japan's Tokugawa period which lasted from 1603 to 1867 (printout included). So I am assuming this box dates from that era. In any event, it is in excellent condition with a couple of teeny little dints in the metal sides that don't detract at all. The lid fits snugly onto the base and would make an excellent pill box. I am incuding a (modern) velvet pouch to keep it in. Measures 1-1/4" diameter x 1" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Beautiful Sevres Trinket Box with Courting Couple on Top, Gilt Interior ~ Made in Paris This gorgeous little porcelain trinket box was made by Edme Samson & Cie (Samson Ceramics) in Paris. The company made very realistic accurate reproductions of earlier Meissen, Dresden, and Sevres porcelain pieces and were in business from 1845 - 1969 using this mark. The outside has rich gold gilt surrounding a romantic couple in a pastoral scene on the lid and is finished in brass ormolu. Inside is finished in a bright, shiny gold gilt. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or damage of any kind. It measures 2" wide x 1-5/8" deep x 1-1/4" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Patch or Powder Box with Hand-Painted Scene What a gorgeous patch box or powder box this is! The box is a beautiful pale aqua blue enamel guilloche with a full hand-painted scene on the lid depicting lovely pink flowers abloom on either side of a meandering stream. A castle can be seen in the foggy mists on the left side of the scene and the setting sun is giving the sky a vibrant cast. The interior of the box has a full size lid in the mirror and a new maribou feather puff is included. It is marked "935" on the base but no other marks can be found. There is just the teeniest of fleabites on the very bottom edge but that is the only noticeable damage to the piece other than an age typical faint scratch or two on the lid only visible when inspected in the light. It's a wonderful piece and can be used in your purse to hold pills or small valuables as the lid snaps closed tightly. I have included many pictures to give you an idea of the true beauty of this wonderful powder box. Measures 2-1/2" diameter x 7/8" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Antique Artifact Trinket Box Made From Porcelain Vase Shard From Ming or Ching Dynasty During the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960's, many valuable porcelain vases and artifacts were destroyed by the Red Guard. From these broken shards, small boxes were hand-crafted to fit the individual pieces to preserve them into something usable today. This particular piece of porcelain is from a vase which dates from the Ming or Ching Dynasty (14th to 19th century) of China. I purchased this along with several others from the same collection and included is the slip of paper that was found inside documenting the history of the piece. It is truly unique and definitely one-of-a-kind. Note the unique shaping to fit the curvature of the porcelain shard (see all photos). Measures 1-5/8" square x 1-1/4" high. NOTE: The three boxes immediately below came from the same collection; however, they do not have the slip of paper regarding the historical significance of the shards they were created from. Antique Artifact Trinket Boxes Made From Porcelain(?) Shards During the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960's, many valuable porcelain vases and artifacts were destroyed by the Red Guard. From these broken shards, small boxes were hand-crafted to fit the individual pieces to preserve them into something usable today. These particular pieces are either porcelain or stone. Patch or Pill Box with Hand-Painted Roses on Purple Enamel Guilloche Background I have had this pretty purple enamel guilloche patch or pill box in my personal collection for several years now. Purple is a very rare color to find in enamel guilloche and the case on this one, although unmarked, resembles rose gold. It is quite lovely! The enameling is very prettily done and you can feel each rose as it is slightly thicker where they were painted on. The enameling is in perfect condition with no scuffs or scratches of any kind. The lid snaps closed tightly so it would be fine for holding pills in your purse. All in all it is in great condition and just a lovely little box. Measures 1-1/2" x 1-1/8" x almost 1/2" deep. Sterling Silver Trinket or Patch Box with Enamel Guilloche Hand-Painted Flower Basket in Cloisonné Offering for the first time this beautiful cloisonné trinket or patch box in sterling silver with a hand-painted basket of flowers on the lid. The entire lid is covered in a background of cornflower blue embellished with gold flowers and decorations around the perimeter. The inside is done in gold vermeil. The shape of this is also unique being oval rather than round or square, thus fitting in the palm of your hand comfortably. The lid snaps shut tightly so it would also make a great container for pills in your purse. It is marked 925 on the rim inside the base and a hallmark which is incomplete but I believe it is for Martin Mayer, a German silversmith who was in business from 1888 to 1940. Overall in excellent condition with only a few tiny imperfections (if you even want to call them that) visible with a loupe and a bit of gold loss on the right side. All in all a great piece! Measures 2" x 1-3/8" x 5/8" deep. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Birdseye Maple Jewelry Casket with Hand-Painted Center Vignette of Bluebirds and Two Pearl Gems This is a beautiful early jewelry casket done in birdseye maple with bronze ormolu trim. The center vignette has a medallion with two hand-painted bluebirds accented with a pair of pearl jewels. The box rests on four tiny brass ball feet. Inside is a removable tray with storage beneath. Interior is lined in red fabric which is original to the piece. There is a key lock but I do not have a key for it. As for condition, the box itself is in excellent condition. There are two pieces of the ormolu trim missing (one corner and one edge) but the box is so ornate that these are truly not even missed. The finish is all original and is truly beautiful ... patina on the bronze ormolu is lovely. Measures 5-5/8" x 3-5/8" x almost 3" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Reverse Painted Flowers Rouge or Patch Box with Cut Crystal Base This was described as a sulphide reverse on glass patch box when I purchased it years ago ... exactly what that means, I am not sure but the design is cut into the domed glass top from beneath and then painted to give it a three-dimensional appearance. The hinged lid opens to reveal a mirror in the lid and the base is cut crystal with a polished bottom. I am including a tiny lambswool puff if someone would want to use it as a small powder jar or blusher. The metal is a gold wash which does show some age appropriate wear (see photos). Other than that, the piece is in excellent condition. Measures 1-7/8" diameter x 1-3/8" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Cobalt & White Enamel Guilloche Patch Box Here is a quaint little patch box made of brass (I believe) with a very pretty lid in alternating bands of cobalt and white enamel guilloche. The white has a design in the guilloche with lines and dots; and even though it has a bluish tint in the pictures, it is actually snow white. And the blue is a deep cobalt shade. The inside has an original old lambswool puff with ruching on the back so it could have been used as a powder box or a patch box. There was no mirror in this piece. There are no makers marks or marks of any kind to identify where or who made it. Overall in very good condition with minor age appropriate wear to the finish. Measures 1-1/2" diameter x 3/4" high. Gorgeous Moser Cobalt Glass Jewelry Casket with Gilt Foliate Decoration and Keys Such a rare find! Here is an absolutely gorgeous cobalt glass jewelry casket attributed to Moser. The hinged top is beveled and domed and opens smoothly. The handles are beaded bails which swivel and the feet are on balls with beaded scrollwork attaching them to the body of the box. The decoration on the box is all done in raised gold gilt. There is some wear to this on the beveled corners which are evident in the pictures. The brasswork has a lovely aged patina and even some verdigris and oxidation which I prefer to leave as is for the purist. There are two keys which come with it but I think the lock is frozen as I can't get them to turn and I don't want to risk breaking the keys. Perhaps some oil would free them up but I never bothered with it. The only damage to the piece is on the front right beveled edge ... there was a chip in the glass about 1" from the upper corner which was touched up with gold gilt. Other than that, it is a beautiful piece which would be a highlight in any setting. Moser pieces are rarely found and this is a true beauty! The box itself measures 3-5/8" across x 2-1/2" deep x 4-1/4" high. The feet add about another inch to the total width. I have taken MANY pictures of this lovely item so be sure to view them all. French Hand-Painted Dresden/Meissen Style Dresser Box by Paris Porcelain Decorating Studio with Ormolu Trim, Circa 1880 - 1920 I have never had another piece made by this company from Paris, France. I had the mark researched by Marks4Antiques.com and they credit it to the Paris Porcelain Decorating Studio who worked on Dresden & Meissen style porcelains from 1880 - 1920's. This piece is exquisitely done with hand-painted florals around a center vignette or roses and other flowers. There is a garland or laurel leaves around this in gold. The outer border is a lavender shade with more gold decoration on it (this is also repeated at the top and lower edges on the bottom half). The lid is hinged with brass ormolu and works fine and snaps closed nicely. It is in beautiful condition with no damage whatsoever and no missing paint or gold (the white areas in the photos are simply glare from reflections). The inside also has hand-painted roses in the lid and the base. There is some crazing visible on the interior but to me, this only adds to its proof of age. Measures 3" x 2-1/4" x 1-3/4" high. Porcelain Figural Trinket Jar by Artoria Limoges with Ormolu Trim This is a darling little porcelain trinket box made by Artoria Limoges of Limoges, France, depicts a farm scene with two figures in the foreground. I have not been able to date the box exactly but I am thinking it is from the 50's or 60's. It is fitted with an ormolu hinge and clasp and has gold embellishments on the sides. The scene looks to be hand-painted but with a loupe you can see it is transfer. I have taken several close-up shots of it for you to see. The base has a more contemporary hallmark. Gorgeous Portrait Porcelain Dresser Jar or Jewelry Casket with Beautiful Lady in Dishabille on Top This is a really pretty porcelain dresser box or jewelry casket featuring a classic beauty in dishabille ... with lustrous flowing locks and a ribbon or flower in her hair. I have tried to research who she might be and a close likeness is Marie Doro, a famous actress in the early 1900's*. The entire top of the jar or box is made up of this portrait. The portrait is not hand-painted but rather transfer but that does not take anything away from it's attractive appearance. The outside of the box is a deep crimson color as is the bottom with ormolu fittings. The inside is white and has hand-painted flowers in the bottom portion. It is oval in shape and is hinged on the left side. The box measures 2-1/2" wide x 3-3/8" long x 1-1/4" deep and is in excellent condition. Continental Sterling Silver Trinket or Patch Box with Rose Tinted Patriarchal Crosses on Lid and Gold Vermeil Interior This unique little sterling silver box is a bit of a mystery. There is a hallmark which is indecipherable but after some extensive research by Tom from Marks4Antiques, I am going to just describe it as continental in origin, meaning European. The patriarchal crosses on the lid, also known as Cross of Lorraine, are done in a pink tint for contrast and is just so pretty. The interior of the box is done in a rich gold vermeil. Also unique is the shaping of the box. The bottom and top are slightly convex so have a rounder feel in the hand. What could this box have been used for? It is anyone's guess but it could have been for a rosary, patches, trinkets, pills, or anything small enough to fit inside. The lid snaps shut snugly. It is in excellent condition and measures almost 2" diameter x 1" deep. I am enclosing the research regarding origin with the piece. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Figural Repoussé Sterling Silver Trinket or Patch Box with Puttis on Lid and Figures on Sides by Storck & Sinsheimer, Germany I just love the shaping and details of this adorable little trinket or patch box with its richly repousséed top and sides. The lid has three puttis picking apples with a large bushel filled at their feet. The sides depict different scenes of a man and woman leaving a church, perhaps having just married, and a shepherd and lamb. Both of these are repeated around the edge and back. The lid snaps closed tightly so it would securely hold your valuables. There are hallmarks on the bottom indicating it was made by Storck & Sinsheimer from Hanau, Germany. According to Marks4Antiques, the Hanau region was known for several silversmiths who created exceptional works, many of which were exported extensively to other countries, mostly USA and UK. The piece was made between 1874 - 1926 and is in excellent condition. Measures 2" wide x 2-1/4" long x almost 1" deep. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Sterling Silver Scenic Trinket or Pill Box with Hand-Pained Enamel Bunnies in Country Setting This is an adorable little trinket box done in sterling silver with a hand-painted scene on the top of a pair o bunnies in a pasture with a white picket fence and mountains in the background. If anyone can correctly identify the marks as to date, where made, and by whom, I would really appreciate it. The box is in mint condition with no damage or wear of any kind. The lid is hinged and snaps shut securely so would make an excellent pill holder. Measures 1-3/8" x 7/8" x 3/4" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

French Bronze Jewelry Casket with Artist-Signed Hand-Painted Portrait This beautiful little jewelry casket features four recessed panels in a lovely shade of peach enamel guilloche surrounding a center portrait hand-painted (probably on ivory) beneath glass. The sides and top are all finished in repousse designs in intricate patterns. The inside has a velvet lined lid and an original padded lining in the base. It is a beautiful piece. The portrait is artist signed but I cannot make out the name. It looks like "Lamy" or "Lannz" ... you be the judge. Although the box itself is not marked, it is more than likely made in France. Measures 3-1//4" diameter x 1-1/2 " high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Inside the original padded lining can still be found in excellent condition to gently cushion your precious jewels. The painting is signed "Hermundez" in blue on the lower right side. The painting is beneath a piece of glass with curved bevel edge. Overall it is in excellent conditon with great patination to the bronze. French Bronze Jewelry Casket with Artist-Signed Hand-Painted Portrait on Lid made for Stern Brothers in New York This is a really gorgeous little French bronze jewelry casket with a hand-painted portrait of a lovely maiden on the lid dressed in a beribboned bonnet. Her gown has peachy pink tints that accentuate the blush in her rosy cheeks ... so pretty! The painting is signed under the beveled glass but I can't read it as it is too far beneath the rim ... I can make out a K and possibly a P. It could be removed but I choose not to do that as I don't wish to risk breaking the prongs that hold it in place. Typically these paintings that are hand-signed are done on ivory and this may well be the case with this one as well. The interior still retains its original fabric lining with padded bottom in excellent condition. It is signed on the bottom "Stern Brothers ~ New York ~ France". Measures 2-3/4" diameter x 1-1/4 " high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Stunning 19th Century Gorham Sterling Silver Dresser Jar with Enamel Guilloche Hand-Painted Portrait and Jewel-Studded Repoussé Lid Without a doubt this is one of the most beautiful dresser jars I have ever owned and it is over 100 years old! Made by Gorham, it bears hallmarks that date it between 1863 - 1890's. The base is cut crystal and is fitted with a polished and ground stopper. The crowning jewel, literally, is the lid on this piece. The top is richly repousséd with flowers and vines and each flower center has a different color jewel ... I have not had them checked to see if they are real but based on the date and quality of this piece, they very well may be. The center of the lid is fitted with an inset portrait hand-painted of a lovely Victorian lady with a feather brimmed hat done on an enamel guilloche background. It is richly embellished with 24 kt. gold and -- get this -- there is even a tiny jewel on the feather of her hat! Honestly I have never seen anything of this quality ... it is just fabulous. The crystal base is fluted all the way around with bevel cuts to the tops of each flute leading to a cut flower. So pretty! The base of the piece is polished with a cut star design. It is in excellent condition with the only thing worth mentioning being a small fracture line in the bottom of one of the flutes where it was probably bumped (actually may even be from the manufacturing as it is inside almost like a stress line) but you can't feel it and there is no chip ... just a line that you can see when you hold it a certain way. If you are looking at the piece, it would be on the far left bottom edge where you would not see it on a table. I tried to show it in the pictures but again, in person, you just won't even notice it. Measures almost 2-1/4" diameter at base 3-3/8" tall. The portrait inset is 1" diameter. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

RARE! Sterling Silver Curling Stone Trinket/Patch/Pill Box with Moss Agate & Tiger Eye Gemstone Top by James Freeman, London, 1896 This is truly one of the most unique little patch or trinket boxes I have ever owned and it was obviously made for a Curling afficianado! The top handle is made of tiger's eye and is centered on a polished piece of moss agate. This in turn is set into a sterling silver lid engraved with some type of markings of which I have no idea of their significance ... they are unevenly shaped and start small on one side while getting larger as you go around. This leads me to think it might have been some type of calendar or counting mechanism but again, I have no idea how it would work. To me it is just a pretty decorative border. Another oddity about it is that there was a piece of paper inside with the word "Griebie" in script. A name? Again, no idea! The glue where it was attached has come loose but you can see it has been in there for many, many years. The box is hallmarked for James Freeman Co. of London (company went into business in 1881) and date stamped for 1896. One or two very minor slight dents (VERY minor!) ... otherwise excellent condition. The box measures 2" diameter x 1" high not counting the handle which would add about another 1/2". It is a genuine antique being well over 100 years old! Note: A similar one is being sold in an English antiques store for over $550 and it does not have the gemstones. Stunning Sterling Silver Figural/Scenic Patch or Trinket Box - Hand-Painted Iridescent Enamel Guilloche This is such a beautiful patch or trinket box stamped 925 Sterling. The scene is of a fisherman fishing at sunset on a mountain lake ... so tranquil ... the sky has rainbow clouds in pink and yellow and aqua. While there is only an R.P. for the maker which I can't identify, I assume that it is Norwegian as most of these done in this style come from that region. If I am able to track down the maker, I will update this listing. Meanwhile, let me tell you about the box ... the scene covers the entire lid as shown. The sides have a band of cross-cut diamonds all the way around. The inside is done in gold vermeil. The enameling on the lid is perfect to my eye with no scuffs, scratches or damage evident. The guilloche pattern is done in concentric wavy lines which make the image almost holographic (you can make out the rays that shoot out from the center in the picture). It is just a fabulous box and will stand out in any collection! Measures almost 2" diameter x 5/8" high and has a slightly domed lid. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Sterling Silver Aqua Enamel Guilloche Dresser Box by William B. Kerr, pre-1927 Here is a very elegant dresser box made by the William B. Kerr Company of Newark, New Jersey ... I say pre-1927 because the company was bought out by Gorham in that year. This company was well known for its high-end Art Nouveau jewelry and vanity items and this piece is certainly proof of that. The workmanship is extraordinary with the cloisonné inset bands of white enamel separating different guilloche patterns on the lid. The interior of the box has a light application of gold vermeil. The lid fits snugly over the base and it is quite weighty. The insignia for the Kerr Company can be seen clearly on the bottom of the piece. It is in excellent condition with the exception of one very teeny fleabite in the clearcoat on the lower side edge that can really not even be seen ... only felt. It is almost indiscernible unless you know it is there. It is a beautiful piece and a stand-out in any collection. The bottom of the piece has damascened swirls. It came in a box which may or may not be original from Bechtel Jewelers of West Palm Beach, Fla. Measures 2-3/8" diameter x 1" high with a slightly domed lid. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Pretty Blue Enamel Guilloche Patch Box with Mirror This very pretty little patch box could double as a pill box as it closes tightly. The guilloche patterns in the lid are intricate and quite lovely. There is a full mirror inside the lid but the piece is unmarked. I assume that it is silverplate or some type of silver alloy as it does tarnish but is not marked sterling anywhere. Beneath the rolled rim there is a pinkish hue which could be a copper base. Since the lid does fit snugly, I have to use a fingernail or small wedge to open it which is easy enough to do as there is a rim under the lid in which to do this. Condition-wise, the enamel guilloche lid is excellent with no scuffs or scratches that I can see. There are a few scratches on the bottom of the piece which you can see in the photos (and look much worse in the pics). There is also one tiny little dent in the bottom edge, also visible in the pictures ... priced accordingly. All in all it is a great functional piece for a very reasonable price. The box measures 1-1/2" diameter x 1/2" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

The painting is very detailed and the colors are quite vibrant. The bottom of the jar is all cut glass and has a full silver collar which bears the insignia for Sterling Le Palais Royal. This gorgeous jar is in fantastic condition with no chips or damage of any kind to the glass. The top has only one or two very minor scuff marks visible only when held to light. Note that even the side of the lid is finished in beautiful enamel guillloche. It measures 3-3/4" diameter at widest part of jar x 2-3/4" high. Lid is 3-3/8" diameter and is nicely domed on the top. Surrounding this is an intricate border of tiny dots and circles. The entire remainder of the box is a deep rich cobalt blue with great depth to the color. It is finished on the inside in gold wash. The base metal appears to be a brass or copper alloy ... it has a nice patina and I do not want to polish it as I prefer the aged patination on a piece such as this. The cut crystal paneled base has a polished bottom. Overall it is in excellent condition with no scratches, chips or damage of any kind. The base measures 2" diameter at the widest portion while the lid is 1-7/8" diameter. The height is 1-1/2" to the top which is slightly domed. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

The details are all hand-painted and it was made in France. The bottom bears the crown and N mark which only signifies Capodimonte style rather than any particular factory. It dates from the late 1800's to early 1900's. This beautiful piece would be a centerpiece on any vanity and it is in perfect condition. Peach Cut Glass "Perfume" Bottle Powder Jar This is a lovely powder jar in the shape of a perfume bottle ... it is quite large and heavy and the sides are cut in a deep design. The scallop-shaped stopper is also quite large and heavy. The color is a peach shade ... I tried to get the images as accurate as possible to true color. The piece is in great shape with some small chips on the edges of the top handle and a minor one along the bottom edge (too small to even photograph) ... I am taking this into consideration and pricing it very reasonably! It's a great display piece or even to use for jewelry or whatnots on your dresser. It is finer glass as the bottom is polished rather than molded, so I am sure it was an expensive piece when it was made. My guess is it dates from the 20's or 30's. French? Bronze Jewelry Casket with Hand-Painted Semi-Nude Portrait on Lid Typically these jewelry caskets were made in France and this one has every indication of being French origin except that there is no mark stating it as such, hence the question mark above. It is beautifully detailed with 3-dimensional raised ornamentations on the lid. The portrait in the center is hand-painted on porcelain and depicts a lovely lady with flowing locks in a semi-nude state of deshabille. The sides of the box are all richly embossed all the way around. Interior is fully lined in beige velvet. Condition is very good with some dents in the bottom under the velvet. Three of the clips from the lid portion have broken off but two are still inside. I will attempt to have them resoldered but the casket works fine as is. Figural Horse Rouge or Patch Box with Cut Glass Pot This adorable rouge or patch box is one of my favorites due to the sweet expression on the horse's face. I believe he is reverse painted on a molded relief from the underside of the glass dome which gives it a 3-dimensional effect. The bottom of the pot is cut all the way around and the base is polished. Inside is a mirror in the lid for applying rouge or a patch, it could have been used for either one. One of the most unique features is that when you look at the horse from the side, you can almost see his other eye for a full faced effect. I tried to get a picture of this and it was pretty difficult but I think you will get the idea (lots of reflection from the glass and light made it hard). Measures 1-3/4" diameter x 1-1/2" high. Stunning Figural Heart-Shaped 18th Century Battersea Enamel Box Here we have a very early and very beautiful hand-painted figural patch box from the 18th century (at least this is what I was told and after my research, I agree with it). Battersea enameling is done on copper and is very beautiful to see and hold ... it is exceptionally smooth. The top has the full scene of a romantic couple in the country with cows, sheep and a steepled church in the background. The lower half is done in a royal blue shade on the outside edges and bottom. Inside the box is all white enamel and there is a little floral decoration inside the lid ... very sweet! The copper has great age patination and overall it is in excellent condition with a tiny miss in the paint at the very lowest tip. I have examined it with a loupe and it is under the glaze so I believe it is factory. The piece measures 2-1/2" across x almost 2-3/4' long x 1-1/4" high to top of slightly domed lid. Scenic Enamel Guilloche Patch Box This is a very pretty little scenic enamel guilloche patch box done in blue tones. The scene is of a lake with trees and when held to light, there is an iridescence almost like a light pink that glows in the background white area. It is very pretty! There is a solid black border outlining the entire top. The effect of the enamel guilloche on the side looks like a ribbon. It is not marked sterling so I don't think it is ... although on the inner lid rim there is a tiny diamond stamp but I cannot make it out without a loupe. The interior has a retaining ring for a mirror which is no longer there but could be added if desired. Lid snaps closed tightly so this would also make a great pill box. Bottom has a pebbled engine turned design and enameling is all in excellent condition. Measures 1-1/2" diameter x 5/8" deep. Top is slightly domed. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Victorian Cobalt Powder Jar with Hand-Painted Pink Roses This is a very early cobalt glass powder jar with pink roses on the lid ... I believe that the decoration on the lid is an early repaint as I can see traces of gold gilt beneath it, probably part of the original design which wore off. This is only speculation on my part but I feel reasonably sure it is the case. That being said, the decorations are older and lend an originality to its appearance. Cherubs Cream Color Celluloid Collar Box In Victorian times, ladies (and men) kept their collars in specially designed boxes specifically made for this purpose. Enamel on Copper Dresser Boxes Here is a very pretty pair of divided dresser boxes done in enamel on copper. Each box has a different hand-painted floral design on the top and one even has design on the sides. The interiors and bottoms are enameled as well. They are marked "China" on the bottom but these are earlier pieces and were not made recently. There is some age appropriate wear on both of the boxes (i.e., one small chip on each box on a back lower corner and a few very minute scratches that are not noticeable but mentioned for clarity). Each box measures 6-1/8" x 4-7/8" x 1-3/8" high including little button feet. (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Peachblow Hand-Painted Dresser Jar with Sterling Silver Repousse' Lid This beautiful peachblow large covered dresser jar is a richer, darker pink than the photos show. It is quite lovely with hand-painted delicate flowers and Victorian designs. It dates from the 1800's and is in wonderful condition. The glass itself is smooth as silk ... decorated on both sides. There is one small chip on the top of the rim that is almost not worth mentioning (visible on super-close-up). The sterling silver repousse' lid is not original to the piece but fits like a glove and enhances its beauty. The lid is hallmarked from the Woodside Sterling Co. of New York, New York, and dates from 1896 -1925. Measures 6" diameter x 5-1/2" high. (Click on pic for more photos.) |
