This beautiful 14K gold-filled vanity case was made by E.A.M. (Elgin American) and has a full enamel guilloche front with a deep turquoise border around a snow white center with hand-painted pink roses.  The designs in the guilloche are also different with the white portion having a basketweave effect ... very unique!  The case itself is octagon shaped and has ornately embossed sides and botom and the chainlink handle has embossed bars. The interior is done in gold wash and has a mirror in the lid (has some slight fogging) with an ornately embossed retainer. The other side features a rotating powder sifter with original puff, a rouge pot with original puff, and two removable lipsticks (both with lipstick remnants still visible inside).  It is signed "Elgin Am. Mfg. Co." and "14K Gold Filled" on the outside back and is in excellent condition. Measures 2-1/2" square and has a 4-3/4" drop to the handle.

I have had this lovely little vanity case in my possession since 2004. It is made of sterling silver with 18K gold accents and was made by the James E. Blake Co. of Attleboro, Mass., who was in business from 1889 to 1936.  I never knew the history of it but with the advent of Ancestry.com, I was able to track down the provenance of this piece.  It belonged to Margaret R. Crisman who was born in 1899 and died in 1993. She married Grover Boyer in 1924, so this would have belonged to her before that date which give us a very good idea of exactly when this was made ... circa 1920 or very close to that.  It is beautifully fitted inside with a beveled mirror in excellent condition which lifts to reveal a little storage compartment with a celluloid writing sheet with her name written on it "Margaret Crisman" ... how cool is that???  Totally gives us the name of the owner and with the monogram on the front of MRC, I was able to locate her on Ancestry (provenance will be included).  The other side of the case has a spring loaded clip to hold paper money or calling cards.  There are also two spring-loaded holders for dimes and nickels.  It is marked in several places "Sterling & 18K", the hallmarks for James E. Blake Co., and Pat. Applied For.  The mirror has a tiny crack in the bottom corner barely noticeable.  The case itself also has several small dents throughout but still makes a nice presentation and is beautiul to behold.  Snaps shut securely and has a nice chain handle.   Measures approximately 3-1/2" x 2-3/8".

Volupté "Lip-Lock" Compact - Brand New Unused with Original Paper Insert

Here we have a unique compact made by Volupté entitled "Lip-Lock" due to the lipstick which locks the compact closed (slides out from the right front side).  This lovely compact is in brand new condition having never been used.  The interior opens to a covered powder compartment with a swivel handle to open it and a mirror in the lid.  Once you lift the cover, you will be amazed to find the brand new powder puff, original powder screen, and the original paper insert with care instructions and ordering information.  It is absolutely pristine! Outside of the case has some very minimal wear from storage on the base but nothing of any real note.  It is quite lovely!  Measures 3-1/4" wide x 2-1/4" high x 3/4" deep.

This beautiful little vanity case is done in damascened stripes on front and back and a center vignette on the front with enamel guilloche panels and hand-painted flowers.  It is divided down the center with a diagonal slash of green enamel.  The chainlink handle also has a bar link in green enamel and a finger ring to top it off.  The inside of the case features a mirror in one half with coin holders for nickles and dimes.  The other side has a rotating powder sifter and a rouge pot with original puff (unused) and rouge.  Case snaps together tightly and is in excellent condition throughout.  Although the case is unmarked, the rouge pot retains its original paper insert from Evans Case Co. of North Attleboro, Mass.  Condition is excellent with only one small scratch in the green enamel slash that is MUCH more visible in the photo than in person. In fact, I hadn't even noticed it before.  Measures a bit over 3" high x 1-7/8" wide.

This is just a gorgeous little vanity purse made by Marathon.  It is done in gold and silver engine-turned designs on front and back and has a fan-shaped vignette on the front in snowy white enamel guilloche with hand-painted pink roses and blue forget-me-not.  The vanity is actually shaped like a little purse and has a handle of embossed bars and links ... so pretty!  The sides are also embossed on both top and bottom edges.  The interior is all done in bright, shiny gold wash and contains a full mirror in the top half.  The bottom has a powder well with puff, rouge pot and a tiny removable lipstick.  There are traces of rouge and powder still inside.  The puff is probably a replacement but fits it good enough.  It is signed Marathon on the top edge of the mirror.  Overall it is in excellent condition with no damage of note.  Measures approx. 3" wide 2" high x almost 1/2" deep. Handle has almost a 5" drop.

This is a very pretty little necessaire with faceted glass bead handle and tassel.  There is also a "carved" glass jewel in the tassel as well.  The case is engine-turned on both sides and there is a cartouche in the center of the top for a monogram but it is blank.  Inside you will find a full size mirror in the top and two powder wells in the bottom, both with original ruched lambswool puffs.  The mirror has some silver loss and possibly a tiny crack that doesn't appear to go all the way through (on the right side).  It is signed "Imperial Plate" and "Patented June 15 1920" on the section between the two powder wells.  There are also two little rings on the bottom where it probably had two other tassels at one time but they are no longer there.  It's a pretty cute little necessaire and priced at a bargain!  Case itself measures a tad over 2-3/4" x 1-1/2" wide x about 1/2" deep..  Handle is 5-1/2" long and tassel is 2" long.

Cobalt Enamel Guilloche Vanity in Original Presentation Box by Karess

This is a very pretty cobalt blue enamel guilloche vanity with a tango finger ring on the top in its original velvety presentation box. There is a nice embossed design around the sides as well as the finger ring. The inside of the case has a mirror in the lid and a very unique compartmented base. One section has a powder with original ribboned puff on it. In front of this (or below depending on your perspective) is a covered rouge with a lift-up lid which has a lipstick built into the end. There is an original ribboned puff for the rouge as well. There is still rouge and lipstick in the case. Back of the case has damascened designs in the metal.  The enamel is in fantastic condition and the box shows some wear as shown in photo.  It is not marked sterling but may be silverplate as it does tarnish and polish like silver.  The compact measures 1-3/4" x 2-1/2" and the box measures 3" x 3-1/4" with a slightly extended base.

This is a very pretty sterling silver vanity case with a ring at the top where you can add a wrist chain or ribbon.  The top of the case is almost entirely covered in pale yellow enamel guilloche with hand-painted roses and forget-me-nots.  The case is embossed on the sides, engraved on the top edges, and engine-turned on the bottom.  Inside the case is a full size mirror in the lid and a fitted compartment in the bottom that holds powder and rouge pots and a swivel lipstick.  The bottom of the case is all finished in gold wash and could use a cleaning.  The enamel on the top is in really great condition with no deep scratches but there is a bit of scuffing at the very center that can only be seen when held at an angle to the light.  This is due to the fact that the top is slightly domed and so there is a bit of wear at the highest part.  Again, not significant at all and very hard to notice unless you specifically look for it.  Price is based on this ... if the piece were mint, it would be double what I am asking.  It's a gorgeous piece and can be used for display or to use for your own makeup.  The two puffs inside are not original to the piece but were inside when I bought it so they will remain with it.  Measures 2-1/8" x 2-1/2" not counting clasp.

This is a very pretty vanity case -- maker unknown -- with a very large center vignette on the front in a beautiful yellow sunburst design in enamel guilloche.  Decorating this are hand-painted roses and a blue forget-me-now as well as two gold birds.  The case is engine-turned with a geometric design on the back. Inside you will find a mirror (cracked) in the id a rotating powder sifter, pot for rouge, and a swivel lipstick.  There are two old puffs inside with the name "Mange's" on both but I don't believe this is the manufacturer.  The handle is done in embossed bars and links.  This is a great starter piece as it is not in perfect condition.  It was well loved and shows wear to the outside of the case.  There are a few faint scuff marks on the enamel clear coat that you really have to look hard to see.  The case snaps shut but does have a gap and the button closure is a little offset.  All this being said, it is still a very nice piece and totally usable.  Measures 3" x 2" not counting clasp or handle.

This beautiful vanity case has been a cherished part of my collection since 2003 and I'm finally ready to part with it.  What I love about this particular case is that the swan alone is done in gold gilt on a guilloche background while the rest of the scene is hand-painted on a plain background (no guilloche).  This can be seen in the close-ups of the piece.  Each brush stroke on the lake and shore can be seen as well as the varying patterns in the guilloche on the swan.  Truly unique!  The vignette takes up most of the lid and measures 2" x 1-1/4".  The perimeter is done in engine turned stripes.  The sides of the case are richly embossed in flowers and leaves.  Inside the case is a full mirror in the lid with some foxing but totally usable.  The base holds a rotating powder sifter, rouge pot holder, and swivel lipstick.  The bar and chainlink handle is also ornately embossed with acanthus leaves.  Back of case has beautiful embossed designs with flower in the center.  Overall it is in great condition.  There is one tiny scratch on the black part of the lid noticeable only when held at an angle to the light.  It's a pretty great piece!  Measures a bit over 2" wide x 3" high. Chainlink handle is about 5" long.

This is just a gorgeous petitpoint vanity purse by Evans. Sparkly gold mesh body and lovely petitpoint flowers on the lid really make this a lovely little vanity purse to carry inside your larger purse today.  The lid opens to reveal a fairly large pouch which will easily hold lipstick and small items (pill case, etc). plus the lid itself is a delightful multi-compartmented compact.  It even has a celluloid surface that you can write on with a pencil!  If you lift this, you will then find a covered powder well beneath it.  The lid itself is a metallic mirror which, when opened, reveals a rouge pot (with original rouge) and original puff inside.  It is quite a marvel of design! Everything snaps together tightly and the purse doesn't appear to have been used or if it has, not more than once or twice.  Top of lid measures 2-1/2" diameter and mesh portion measures about 4" diameter.  When hanging it is about 3" deep.

Mondaine was the manufacturer of many very unique and well-thought-out vanity cases and this is no exception to that rule.  Fitting perfectly in your hand, the fabric lid on this one features an embroidered petitpoint flower basket in the tiniest of stitches on a black background.  The back of the case is black polychrome. When opened, you will see a full size metallic mirror in the top half which is in excellent condition.  The other half holds both a rouge and powder covered sections with original mint condition unused puffs.  Beneath each of these you will find -- also unused -- both rouge and powder pots. Beneath the metallic lid is a veritable dresser of makeup!  Eyebrow brush, eyeliner pat, lip gloss and a pencil with white inside (not sure what this would be for). And of course the back of the metallic mirror which can be used when this side is opened.  It is just a delightful piece and basically unused condition. Measures approximately 3" x 2-1/8" overall.

This is the first time I have come across this style of vanity case.  Made by Yardley of London, it features a sweet little figural scene on the front of a mother and her children.  The case is fitted with a pop-up lipstick holder on the outside which is released by a little catch on the side.  The compact portion opens by squeezing two small dots on either side.  When that is done, you will find a powder pat in the base with original puff and a nice mirror with gold border in the top.  The mirror lifts up to reveal another original puff over a rouge pot with another mirror above that.  All in all it is an ingenius design and it is in excellent -- nearly new -- condition.  There is also a patent number inside which I will try to research.  Measures 2" x 2-1/2" x 1/2" deep.

Here is a very unusual and rare mesh purse in a leopard print design ... I have NEVER seen anything else like it in all my years of collecting!  The lid is a marble design celluloid completely surrounded by crystal jewels that sparkle like diamonds.  The slide strap is an antique bronze color and I can't determine whether it is woven of fine metal wire or threads but it is very finely done.  The body of the purse is brown with goldish silvery designs running through it and this is picked up in the tassel which is done in both gold and silver ring chains.  When you open the purse, you will find a round wide beveled mirror inside the lid.  This beautiful purse is in excellent condition and is sure to be a standout in any collection!  There are no maker's marks that I could find.  The body of the purse measures 5" long x 2-1/2" wide.  The lid is a bit over 2" diameter.  The strap handle is 6-1/8" long and the tassel is a bit over 2" long.  Overall it is 13-1/2" long.

Here is another lovely vanity purse that has been in my private collection since 2001.  Long been a favorite of mine due to the beautiful tranquil scene of a majestic golden swan on a lake with turqoise sky overhead.  The case is fully damascened in leaves and berries (it was hard to capture in photos so I have several for you to see).  The sides ae richly embossed all the way around.  The interior is completely fitted with a rotating powder sifter, rouge pot, and lipstick case in the base.  The lid houses a spring holder for nickels and dime, a mirror which opens to a compartment for paper bills or patches or what have you, and an open holder where a perfume once was.  There is no makers name but it is reminiscent of D. F. Briggs.  The handle consists of embossed bars connected with ring links.  Overall it is in excellent condition and would be a prize in any collection!  Measures 3" wide 2" high x almost 7/8" deep.

This is a lovely vanity case with cloisonné enamel guilloche top with handpainted roses and forget-me-nots. Case is engine-turned on the back and has a pretty chainlink handle. Inside we have a full-size mirror in the lid and the other half holds rouge pot and a rotating powder well with engine-turned design. Overall in excellent condition. It is signed "E.A.M." on the interior beneath the rouge pot. Measures almost 2-5/8" wide x 1-3/4" high.

I have had this beautiful vanity case in my personal collection since 2001 and even though it has some imperfections which I will mention later, it has long been a favorite of mine due to the design and colors. It is a made by E.A.M. and is done in sterling silver with enamel guilloche top with handpainted pink dogwood flowers and blue forget-me-nots surrounded by a lavender border. The chainlink handle has embossed bars and the side edges of the case are also richly embossed. The back of the case has fine incised lines. The interior is done in gold wash and has a mirror in the lid with an ornately embossed retainer. The other side features a powder and rouge well, both with contents (powder pat, rouge pat and puff, all of which does show use). As for condition, there are some imperfections that I will try to point out. On the front of the case, there is a "shadow" on the left side in the white portion which barely shows up. I am not sure if it was a smudge of paint that was left in the process but it is original and shows up worse in the picture than it does in person. Also, there is a slight bend to the case so that it sets a bit askew. It can be pushed back to perfect position to lay it down but will pop back out if moved. Again, neither of these things bothered me and I have enjoyed it as it is for all these years. Other than these two apologies, it is in great vintage condition. It is signed "E.A.M." and "STERLING" on the outside back. Measures 2-7/8" wide x 1-3/4" high.

Sterling Silver Martelé Vanity by James E. Blake with Jeweled Clasp

Here is a truly beautiful little vanity case done in solid sterling silver with a martelé (French for hammered) finish. This superb piece was made by James E. Blake, a renowned silversmith working out of Attleboro, Massachusetts, between 1889 and 1936 (when the mark inside was used).  It is all original and features a lovely little beaded tassel, pretty incised designs on the edges of the front and back, and a center design on the front where a monogram could be added if desired.  And it is topped off with a nicely braided handle.  The interior is all done in gold vermeil and is exceptionally made with a mirror on one side and two covered compartments on the other. Each snaps closed tightly and would hold loose powder or rouge or whatever small goodies you might have.  The clasp is set with a sapphire jewel which just adds to its beauty.  There is a bit of fogging to the mirror but it is still perfectly usable as the photos will show.  The silver is also in excellent condition with some typical minor scuffs and scratches from use.  The worst scratch is one on the front that I have tried to show in a photo but it is really not noticeable in person unless you are looking for it.  I have not tried to buff it out as it never bothered me at all.  The case itself measures 1-3/4" wide x 3" long.  The handle measures about 4" long and the tassel adds another 1-1/4".

This lovely vanity purse is attributed to Whiting & Davis although it is unmarked.  The design is just stunning with a rigid frame covered in silk screened Dresden mesh in vibrant colors of green, yellow, blue, beige and red.  The case has jewels on all sides, even the top!  The front has two rubies and marcasites, each side has a jewel (one is crystal, one is ruby), the back has a ruby and marcasites, and the top has an emerald, two rubies and two pearls. The frame is edged in a beaded trim and tiny little rosettes.  The top "flap" lifts up and the case then opens to reveal a gilt interior (shows age wear) with a mirror in the top half and two wells in the bottom for powder and rouge.  There is a baby blue swansdown puff that was included when I purchased this back in 2007.  At that time it did not have a tassel but I was able to acquire one that I think looks pretty good with it although it is not original.  The chainlink handle has embossed designs on the bars and is original to the piece.  See all photos for condition which is very good for its age.  There is no damage other than wear to the mirror which is also age appropriate.  Measures 1-3/4" wide x 3" long not including handle or tassel x 1/2" deep.

This beautiful vanity case has a center vignette of two pink roses and rosebuds set in an ornately embossed gold case studded with ruby and sapphire jewels.  There are two large rubies, 6 smaller rubies, and 6 tiny sapphires ... 14 jewels in all.  The goldtone case is richly embossed on all four sides and has a bar and link chain handle to carry.  Interior features a mirror on one side which opens to reveal a small storage compartment behind it. The other half holds a rouge and powder well and a tiny lipstick case.  A replacement lambswool puff is included.  It is in excellent condition with engine-turned designs on back. Measures 2" wide x 3" long not including clasp x 3/4" deep.

Here is a lovely sterling silver vanity case made in the early 1900's by the Webster Co. of N. Attleboro, Massachusetts.  This larger case hs a braided wrist chain with adjustable slide handle.  The front of the case is incised with fine grooves and the edges are richly embossed and beveled.  The back of the case is smooth with the same matching embossed border.  Now for the good part! When you open the case, the inside of one half is richly damascened and finished in a gold vermeil with a spring clasp for holding paper money or whatnots.  The other side is fitted with 5 compartments:  one for powder with a powder pat and puff still inside, one for rouge with a rouge pot and puff still inside, a removable lipstick tube, and spring-loaded coin slots for dimes and nickels.  There is a mirror in each of the powder and rouge compartments as well.  The case is signed Sterling and hallmarked for Webster on the rim.  The front of the case bears the monogram "M.S.H."  There are a few very minor dents on the back side of the case. And the chain handle where it attaches to the clasp has several broken rings but it is still attached (see close-ups).  All in all it is a great piece in excellent condition and the price reflects the minimal imperfections. Case itself measures 4-1/2" high x 2-1/2" wide x 1/2" deep..

Whiting & Davis Mesh Vanity Purse with Tassel and Jeweled Clasp

This is a very pretty vanity purse by Whiting & Davis dating from the early 1900's.  It is done in black and white diamond geometrics on a gold mesh base.  The frame is actually a compact and is also goldtone metal with engraved flowers on the top and a decorative little chainlink tassel dangle.  The clasp that holds it closed is a blue sapphire and there is a braided cord with a slide adjustment for carrying.  When the lid is opened, there is a covered powder sifter with original puff and a mirror in the cover.  It is just so sweet!  It is in excellent condition with the exception of 2 of the little links along the side are detached ... my eyes aren't good enough to reattach them but I will try to have someone do this.  It's not detrimental in any way to the integrity or appearance of the purse, only mentioning for accuracy.  Enameling is all in very good condition with only very minor wear here and there.  Overall it is great!  Measures 2-3/4" wide at the bottom edge x 6" long from top of frame to bottom. The compact itself measures 1-3/4" x 2-1/2".

Early Enamel Guilloche Cloisonne' Octagon-Shaped Vanity Purse with Original Tassel-Hidden Lipstick and Greek Key Design by Lenk, Austria

I have had this stunning vanity purse in my personal collection since 2003 and have never tired of looking at it.  It is a large size with a full enamel guilloche front done in a deep blue with a center vignette in cloisonne'  and this is bordered in a Greek Key design in white cloisonne' around the edge.  The blue and grey silk tassel is original to the piece and conceals a matching enamel guilloche lipstick inside.  The purse is suspended from a very long heavy gold link chain handle which measures 8-1/2" long.  The interior of the compact has a shaped wide-beveled mirror in the lid which is in excellent shape and a new swansdown puff inside.  The back of the case is hallmarked for Lenk, Austria.  It is in excellent condition for its age (I would date this to the turn of the century 1900) ... there are no chips in the enamel; however, when held to light there is a bit of wear in the clearcoat that is more like very fine pitting.  It's not visible when looking at it directly only when held at a side angle.  It is a stunning piece and I am pricing it at what I paid for it back in 2003.  The case measures almost 3" wide x 3" high; overall hanging length is 17" tip to tip.

Stunning Art Deco Silhouette Dancing Nymph Figural Enamel Guilloche Vanity Case with Lipstick Hidden in Tassel

This stunning art deco vanity case features a dancing nymph in silhouette on a deep gold enamel guilloche background on the lid which is also surrounded in black and white enameled flowers around the perimeter.  The back and side of the case is all richly engine-turned in beautiful designs, all on a gold-tone metal case.  The braised wrist handle is in excellent condition and has a lovely openwork slide adjustment.  The case is finished off with a very ornate lush black tassel which hides a gold lipstick case.  Now for the interior ... upon opening it, you will find a (used) puff atop a rotating sifter for loose powder.  The other side holds a mirror which will open to expose a rouge pot and another puff which has been gently used.  Overall the entire piece is in excellent condition.  Compact portion measures 2" diameter x 5/8" deep; tassel measures 5" long and braided handle is 6" long.  Overall hanging length is 14" tip to tip.

Rare Whiting & Davis Double Mesh Vanity Purse with Venetian Lace Fringe and Jeweled Frame

Another jewel from my private collection, I have owned this one since 1999 and have never, in all these years, come across another like it.  Although unmarked, it has all the properties of sterling silver in that it tarnishes like sterling.  But I have never tested it ... just kept it wrapped in silver paper.  What makes this so unusual is that it has two completely separate purses -- both finished in exquisite Venetian Lace fringe -- attached by a central frame which opens via a sapphire jeweled clasp.  When opened, inside is found a center swivel vanity compartment and two mesh pockets, each a full-size purse in itself.  The center portion also opens from each side ... one side holds a mirror and a powder pot with puff.  The other side has a covered rouge pot with puff.  To understand this completely, you will just have to look at all the pictures.  All of this is suspended from a tightly braided silver handle.  The Venetian Lace finge on the bottom of each of the purses just sets it all off beautifully.  The frame is also beautifully engraved on both sides.  Condition is very good .. there are a few very minor dark spots on the silver mesh that I have not tried to polish out but I am sure they would easily be removed.  Measures 2-3/4" wide at top x 8-1/2" long not counting clasp or handle.  Bottom is 3-1/4" wide at edges of fringe.  Yes, it's expensive, but yes, it is that rare!

RARE Austrian Cobalt Enamel Guilloche Acorn Shaped Vanity Purse

One of the most beautiful dance purses I have ever seen although technically it could be a compact. The bottom is completely open but there is a mirror in the lid and it came with a lovely little swansdown puff. My guess is that the puff was added but it was intended to be used as a vanity purse with a mirror. It is an exquisite piece of workmanship ... the cobalt blue enamel guilloche goes completely around the purse and on the lid as well and it is finished off at the bottom with a black tassel. The original braided cord handle is also intact and in excellent condition. Overall in near perfect shape ... there is no damage to the enamel whatsoever. Mirror has some tiny age spots -- who doesn't?!? -- but does not interfere with image. Metal trim could be bronze ... all original old patina. Marked "Austria" on the mirror rim. The purse measures 2" diameter x 2-1/2" long not counting tassel..

Rare Bolster Carryall/Compact by Gala of London with Butterfly on Top - Never Used!

Here we have a very rare carryall in a bolster style all in black velvet, including the loop handle, accented with a tiny gold butterfly on one end. Each side has a zipper to open the compartments within ... beneath the butterfly is a mirror in the lid and a powder compartment with original puff marked "Gala of London" and sifter screen, neither of which have been used. The other end is open for storing your valuables. It is in excellent condition throughout! Velvet is all in great shape as well. Measures a bit over 4" diameter x 3-3/4" long. Strap loop handle is another 6" long.

This vanity set by LaMode features a matching enamel guilloche compact and lipstick with hand-painted flowers on both tops ... what makes it extra special is the fitted mesh purse made by Whiting & Davis specifically for this set. The compact still has the original price tag which says Genuine LaMode Product on one side and a price of $18.50 on the other! Wow! Just imagine ... by today's equivalent, this set would have cost $250* in 1930! The compact has the original puffs inside and an original unopened rouge pat as well. The powder puff has some age foxing spots but it has never been used. The lipstick has traces of lipstick still inside and the reverse side of the case has a nice beveled mirror. The back side of the compact is regular enamel, not guilloche. The gold mesh bag has the original Whiting & Davis label inside which I did not see until I was taking the pictures for this listing. Entire set and bag are in excellent condition other than the things I mentioned. Please see all pictures which will show it much better. Case measures 4-1/4" wide x 3-1/4" high. Compact is 2-1/4" x 2" and lipstick is 1-7/8" long.

Tapestry Camera Style Vanity Case with Wrist Strap Made in Germany

Here is an unusual camera style case made in Germany and covered in a pretty tapestry fabric in gold, pink and blue on black.. The case is brass and is in excellent condition. There is a matching wrist strap to carry it which is also in excellent condition. This case has many compartments. First is a lipstick which can be seen on the left side. Then on the one side is a push-button release which flips open a mirror and a covered powder compartment with original puff. The mirror shows age fogging and the puff is worn but looks good on the top side. There is a second push-button on the side which, when pushed, opens the powder well. In here is an original screen. Now turn it over and on the other side is an outer coin purse with snap closure. On the end of the case is a brass tab which will lift to open another compartment which can hold cigarettes in a spring-loaded section ... this will also lift to be able to store flat bills or calling cards beneath. It is quite unique! The case measures 4" x 2" x 3/4" thick not counting coin purse. Wrist strap is almost 3" long.

Jeweled Mother-of-Pearl Vanity Clutch Purse by Evans with Original Box and Sleeve

I have had this pretty MOP vanity purse in my collection for many years mainly because of the color of the jewels ... they look like blue topaz which is my favorite gemstone! This purse comes in its original flannel sleeve and its original box with the Evans logo on the top. The top of the purse is set with two concentric rectangles of the blue jewels which are all prong-set and their color is gorgeous. The bottom side of the purse is done in MOP tiles in diamond pattern which is quite lovely. The interior of this purse is outfitted with a covered powder, original puff, and lipstick case along with a full size mirror in the top and even a comb holder with comb! The bottom has an open compartment for storing anything you desire and has a spring clip to hold it in place. This purse has never been used and the puff and powder well are clean as a whistle. However, just due to age, there are some imperfections which have occurred such as separation in some of the MOP on the lid and some slight discolorations (all are visible in the pics). I have not tried to do anything about this as I would not know how and wouldn't want to risk damaging it. The purse measures 5-1/2" x 3-1/4" x 1-1/8" thick. It is quite heavy!

I have never seen another purse like this one ... it is so unusual! It is a black suede with brass fittings. On the front is a plate with engraved designs in black, gold and bronze tnes with two winged griffins in the center of an 8-pointed star. The inside is completely outfitted with mirror which has a storage compartment behind it for money. There are screened covered pots for powder and rouge and a lipstick compartment (at present there is a fluffy swansdown puff in that). See all pictures ... it is a truly unique purse. Condition is excellent ... pretty much like new however the black from the suede does tend to rub off on clothing. Measures 4-1/4" wide x 3-1/4" high not counting clasp x 1-1/2" deep.

Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Case by F. M. Co.

This beautiful cigarette case features enamel guilloche in a pale buttery yellow on both front and back.  The front also has a center vignette in snowy white with a hand-painted pink rose and matching pink roses garnishing each corner.  The interior is done in engine turned gold with two spring clips to hold cigarettes.  You could also use this to hold bills or notes as well. Each clip is stamped F.M. Co.  Now as for condition:  keep in mind this was a utilitarian piece and as such does show typical use. On the front, there is a chip at the very lower right corner. On the lower front left corner there is what looks like a chip but is actually a tiny gap in the area between the enamel portion and the metal corner wrap. On the back, the two lower corners have small chips.  Other than these, there is just normal superficial surface scuffs but nothing bad. When I purchased it, I priced it at $299 but have kept it in my own collection since that time and I am reducing the price now for this first-time offering to reflect the current economy. Measures almost 3" x 2" overall.

Sterling Silver Chased Cigarette Case

Not a compact, but still a very pretty piece that needed to be added to this page for you.  A very beautifully chased sterling silver ladies cigarette case (marked sterling on side of case).   No maker's mark.   Measures 3-1/2" x 3" x 5/8" deep.

This is a super fine baby mesh vanity purse with one of the prettiest frames I have seen.  It is a rich gold color with delicate engraving on the frame and an unusual amethyst jewel in the clasp. It has an adjustable mesh wrist strap and 3 tiny beaded ball fringe. When you pull on the little drop pendant, the compact opens to reveal a tiny mirror in the lid and a teeny celluloid handled puff.  This is a stunning purse in fantastic condtion. Sure to please even the most discerning collector!  Purse measures 9 " long from clasp to bottom of middle ball fringe and almost 3-1/2" wide at the hinges. Note:  it is not marked Whiting & Davis but it is my opinion that it was made by them as the style is similar to others I have had that were identical. It is possible that the hang tag was removed or fell off. It is marked "Soldered Mesh" on the back of the compact portion.

I have had this beautiful Delysia purse in my collection for several years and it is with mixed emotions that I am parting with it.  Blue is my favorite color and it is very hard to find this shade in mesh let alone in this particular style.  It has a braided black loop handle and blue/white mesh tassel on the bottom. The clasp is set with a blue sapphire jewel and the interior is in excellent condition.  One of its former owners years ago glued a tiny picture of a man's face to the mirror ... whether this is a famous actor of the time or a beau of hers I do not know but it is sweet nonetheless and I have left it intact. See all the pictures of this purse which will show the condition much better than my words can!  Purse itself measures 4-1/2" long not counting tassel x 2-1/2" diameter.

Here is a very unusual and rare Whiting & Davis DOUBLE mesh purse all done in the finest silver mesh (not marked sterling but it tarnishes and polishes like sterling) ... original slide braided handle has a cathedral-framed mesh purse on one end with lovely fringed bottom while the other end is attached to a tiny vanity bag with a littlespring-loaded coin holder in the lid. The embossed lid on the tiny purse has an ornate crest and shield and it has a really cute little mesh tassel. Purse is marked Whiting & Davis on the inside frame.  It is in very good condition with just a few detached links ... one on the back side of the small purse (see picture) and the others on the back lower portion of the larger purse (these did not show up in photos so I did not try to show them).  Measures 2-5/8" wide x 8" long overall (not counting handle); tiny purse is 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" plus another 1-1/4" for the tassel.

Just imagine the occasion one would have carried a piece like this to ... It had to be quite the gala event!  The piece is hallmarked "International Cw Sterling". In actuality, the C is a half moon and is one of the hallmarks used by Watrous Mfg. Co. of Wallingford, Connecticut. It was one of the first companies to become part of International Silver in 1898.  I suspect this purse was made around that same time period.  You must look at the pictures to see the detail that went into this amazing piece. When first opened, there is a mirror on the left and a spring clip on the right which will hold a small hanky or paper money or even cigarettes. If you lift the mirror, the other side has a powder and rouge pot (empty) and a celluloid or ivory sheet to write on for dances. There may have been a tiny pencil hidden in the tassel of this at one time but there is no evidence of this now ... just my speculation. Tassel and braided handle are both original to the piece. There is a silhouette of a lady's face on the cover in  black. Excellent condition throughout with the exception of some foxing on the mirror and a bit of discoloration to the edges of the tablet sheet.  Case measures 2" wide x 3" high x almost 1-1/4" front-to-back. Overall length when suspended is 16".

This is one of the finest examples of this style of mesh purse that I have ever had the privilege of owning. It has been in my personal collection for several years but the time has come to share it with someone else who will be able to appreciate its beauty. First of all, the condition of this purse is phenomenal. The colors of the enamel are so pretty in pink, red, teal, aqua, and black with only very minor wear visible upon close inspection. This vibrant color combination is rarely seen in this style of purse. The interior has the original butterscotch colored comb which is either celluloid or catalin. There is one tooth broken off the very end (visible in pic). The gold tone case has the raised center cartouche of the dancing couple in black. There are superficial age appropriate scuffs in the surface that I have not tried to buff out; it is in as-found condition. The mirror in the lid also shows age appropriate streaking and fogging but is still usable (again, clearly shown in picture). A tiny blue sapphire jewel is in the clasp adding to its appeal. The black braided handle is also original and only has some minor fraying near the slide adjustor. I have always been in love with this item and amazed at its beauty. Measures 3" wide at case, 4" wide at bottom, and 7-1/2" long not counting the handle.

This is a very unique scenic enamel guilloche vanity case manufactured by the D.F. Briggs company. The beautiful case on this one is completely done in enamel guilloche on both the front AND the back. The front has a hand-painted desert scene and roses bordering each side. The background is a butter yellow and both sides have a rich turquoise blue enamel guilloche border. Now for the fun part ... inside the case, which is finished in gold vermeil damascene, was a photo of a mother and child. Along with that was a small slip of paper with the typed note:

This is a beautiful little vanity case in French bronze with enameled detail surrounding a hand-painted portrait on ivory of Marie Antoinette. There are also four faux turquoise jewels on the corners of the front. The sides and back of the case are richly embossed in pretty designs. Inside the case is a lovely wide-beveled mirror in the lid with ornamental gold trim all around it. The base is lined in pale pink velvet and has a covered powder pot with pretty little ruched puff. There are two little compartments for a small perfume or lipstick to nest in. The words "Made in France" can be found on the inner rim right beneath the clasp. Very good condition throughout ... be sure to look at close-ups! Measures 1-7/8" wide x almost 3" high.

This is a fabulous sterling silver vanity case with an almost full-panel scenic picture handpainted on enamel guilloche on the front. The scene features a double sailboat drifting across the ocean into the sunset with birds flying overhead. Two palm trees adorn either side. Case is engine turned on the back and has deep angle-beveled side edges richly embossed in fancy designs. Back of case is marked sterling. Inside we have a mirror in the lid which lifts up to reveal a storage compartment behind (unfortunately pics don't show this). The other half holds rouge pot, powder pat, lipstick and a space that probably held a perfume (not included). Overall in excellent condition. It is signed "R & G Co." on the interior mirror frame. Measures almost 3" wide x 2-1/8" high x 3/4" thick.

Green Figural Elephant Celluloid Vanity

This delightful figural elephant celluloid vanity case was purchased from a private collector and it has been a treasure to me. It is green marble with black accents. Elephant is raised up (3-dimensional) and palm tree is painted on. Both sides snap open from the center closure which has an ivory framed mirror on one side with powder and rouge (original puffs intact) while other side is open for carrying small items such as money or cigarettes. Tassle hides a gold lipstick ... note the matching bakelite bead on the top of the tassel. As for condition, there are some slight imperfections to the case (one in the actual manufacturing) and the photos will clearly point this out.  They are very minor and were insignificant to me ... in fact this is one of my very favorite necessaires!

This is just a gorgeous petitpoint vanity purse by Evans. Sparkly gold mesh body and braided mesh chain are like new. Interior is lined in beige silk and is in mint condition ... purse has never been used. Both original puffs are still inside as well as the original rouge and paper Mayfair cover for reorders. Top of lid measures 2-1/2" diameter and purse hangs 4" long when held up. When purse is held, it forms a square shape with rounded bottom. This is a real beauty that could be used today ... it's a wonderful piece!

Rare style Whiting & Davis vanity purse with enameled faux cloisonné floral panel on lid. Compact portion opens in three sections: lid holds oval mirror and bracket for comb, center portion contains rouge and powder wells (original rouge and puff still inside), and bottom portion is made up of baby ring mesh with abstract designs in pink and blue. Purse is in excellent condition with only minor superficial wear on the case; unlined. Compact portion measures 3” x 2”, overall length is 7” long.

Here is another very rare piece from my personal collection ... a wonderful figural celluloid dance purse featuring a lady on a swing in piercework on the front. The piercework is a gold shade with carmel colorations. Black celluloid body with deep red trim and underside . Original black braided handle and tassel ... little red pushbutton closure. Interior features a round beveled mirror in the base. Beneath the lid is a little powder pot with original puff . Also inside is the original matching lipstick that slides into a fitted holder. On the side of the lipstick are the words "Tangee Theatrical". Measures 3" diameter overall x 3/4" thick.

This is a very pretty vanity purse with a full enamel guilloche front done in sections of blue and white with blue roses and pink roses. The guilloche pattern in the background is different beneath the different colors giving the enameling a variation in appearance. The goldtone case is all richly embossed on all sides. Interior features a mirror in the lid which shows signs of age. Base features a rotating powder well, rouge pot (no rouge) and holder for lipstick case (no case). There is no manufacturer's mark that I can find but it is a quality piece. Gold chainlink handle may or may not be original ... it goes nicely with the case but my feeling is that it is not the original handle. Case measures 2-1/8" wide x 3" long not counting clasp or handle.

This is absolutely one of the finest and most interesting Mondaine vanity purses I have ever seen. It is in mint, brand new condition and has its original box. It is done in cream-colored enamel with a coat of arms in black and gold on the lower front corner. Pretty matching braided silk cord acts as the handle. When opened, there is a lovely beveled mirror on one side in perfect condition. The other side has a clip for money and covered rouge and powder wells beneath. Both original puffs are there and unused. The original rouge pat with the "M" monogram is also intact and unused. The original box has a padded silk-lined bottom and is in great shape with the exception of the corners which are split and one end panel on the lid half is missing. All in all, this is a wonderful collectible vanity that could be used today. Measures 3" wide x 4" high.

Here is a lovely case for someone who just wants a pretty carrying case to use in whatever way they wish. It was more than likely done by D.F. Briggs, but the interior fittings have been removed. There are still little retaining clips for a mirror in the lid, so that could be added again if someone desired it. But the base is empty. It would make a nice carrying case for small change or bills, contacts, pills, or any small what-have-you's. The enamel guilloche panel on the front is done in an oval and is lavender backing with a bright gold flower basket with pink roses and a blue ribbon. Case is all engine-turned and has a nice embossed handle. Back of case has one noticeable dent/scratch. Measures 2-3/8" wide x 2-3/4" high not counting clasp or handle.

This little cutie came from a private collector and is a very pretty shade of ivory with cobalt blue and gold stripes inlaid with sapphire and topaz "jewels" ... 32 in the top row and 30 in the bottom row ... subtle difference in design that adds to its charm. All jewels are present ... none missing. Original silk braided cord and tassel in good shape. Top opens with a little flip-up clasp to reveal an interior compartment with mirror on one side and powder, rouge and lipstick on the other. Unusual configuration has swivel arms to hold items in place. Excellent condition throughout.

D.F. Briggs is one of my very favorite manufacturers as they did exquisite work. This one is no exception! A lovely vignette on the lid of this vanity features a bright gold flower basket with roses and a pretty blue ribbon bow with streamers. Both sides of the silvertoned case are engine turned with a striped design. The edge of the case is richly embossed. Interior features a mirror in the lid with some discoloration beginning. Base portion features powder well and rouge pot, both with contents, and original black and gold puffs (used). There is also a snap-out lipstick and a holder for a perfume vial (vial is gone). Beautiful embossed barlink handle is set with 4 pearly beads. Case does show use but is in overall very good condition. Marked D.F.B.Co. Measures 3" wide x 2-3/4" high counting clasp but not handle.

Pictures do not do justice to this absolutely gorgeous jeweled vanity. The silvertone case is deeply embossed in beautiful scrollwork and flowers and is set with 8 jewels in ruby and sapphire. In the center is a jet black enameled vignette with two pink roses and a bright gold butterfly about to light on the bottom one. It is breathtaking! Interior features a mirror on one side which opens to reveal a small storage compartment. Above this are two spring-loaded coin holders. The other half holds a rouge and powder well (both are empty and cotton replacement puffs were in it when I purchased it). Overall it is in excellent condition with engine-turned designs on back. Measures 1-7/8" wide x 3-1/8" long not including clasp.

This gorgeous vanity purse was made by D.F.B. Co. and is dated 1926 on the inside. The case is all bright, shiny silver with black enameled border. Thereis a center cartouche with a gold flower basket overflowing with pink roses. The hand has embossed bars and jet black beads for accent. The inside of this case is breathtaking ... it is all engine-turned in beautiful swirling designs. The inside of the lid holds the mirror while the base has a rotating powder sifter, rouge pot with original puff (and rouge), a flip-up lipstick (with lipstick), and a tiny glass vial for perfume nested inside a metal sheath. The glass stopper is intact but the perfume bottle has a chip on the side ... it may still hold perfume, I haven't tried. There is a paper label on the perfume that says "Germany". Superb condition ... there is only one faint scratch on the front and normal surface wear ... overall not bad at all especially for this price! Purse measures 3-1/2" long x 2".

The embossed lid on the tiny purse has a crest with a shield and winged griffin perched on top. There are stars on the shield and what looks like a word too tiny for me to read. Purse is marked Whiting & Davis on the inside frame and Sterling on the clasp. It appears to be in perfect condition to my eye ... everything is intact and there is absolutely no damage anywhere! Measures 2-5/8" wide x 8" long overall; tiny purse is 1-1/2" x 2-3/4".

Here we have a lovely enamel guilloche vanity case with a snowy white front featuring a golden basket of pink roses and forget-me-nots. There is also a pink rose in each corner and the entire front is edged in a royal blue border. It is just stunning! The back is engine turned and the sides and front edge are embossed. Interior features a mirror in the lid and base contains rouge pot, rotating powder sifter, removable lipstick, and two used puffs. Overall in excellent condition! Measures 2-1/4" wide x 2-5/8" high.

When I purchased this, I was told it was sterling silver. However, I cannot find a mark on it. It certainly tarnishes like sterling and if it is not, then it is most certainly silverplate. The front of this case features a rare scene of a village with mountains, lake and a ship in front of a rising sun. Very unique! On the back, there is an engine turned design with "To Berta" engraved in the center. The interior is simly lined in a fuchsia pink silk which is definitely showing its age. One side has compartments but the fan shaped accordion pleats are pretty much shattered. Other than that, it is an adorable piece with lots of appeal! Measures 3-3/4" long x 2-3/4" high.

Gold mesh vanity purse by Evans with fabulous lapis jeweled and enameled filigreed lid. A large center jewel is surrounded by 8 cloisonné flowers with white and cobalt enameling and a lapis jewel in the center of each ... 17 jewels in all! The interior is lined in a mauve silk in excellent condition. The lid is fitted with a covered powder well with original puff as well as a flip-out metallic mirror over a rouge pot -- unused -- with the name Evans embossed into it. Original Mayfair refill paper still inside rouge pot as well as original puff. Measures 2-3/4” diameter at lid, 6-1/2” long, and 4” wide at base. Cute scalloped fringe finishes it off. Fantastic condition!

Great little sterling silver vanity purse with silhouette design of two romantic figures on the center. The edge is embossed on both the front and back side and there is a braided wrist strap. Interior features a card or bill holder on one side with engine turned gold overlay designs. The other side has a mirror and two coin holders. The piece is marked sterling and has a hallmark with a W in the center ... I will try to research this manufacturer. Silver is a bright shiny finish, not dull like the scan shows. There are no dents or noticeable scratches ... surface is like a mirror! Measures approximately 2-1/4" wide x 4" long.

A very sweet and delicate little vanity purse that took me a few minutes to figure out how to open due to its unique design; there is no obvious snap at the top ... the face of the compact has a tiny lift at the top end. The front is engine-turned with a raised medallion in enamel guilloche with two roses in the center. A matching enamel guilloche bead holds the cord handle together and acts as a slide to tighten to your wrist. Inside there is a mirror in the lid portion and rouge and powder pots in the base, both with original rouge and powder and matching pair of gold puffs. The edges of the case are richly embossed with flowers and leaves, and it is finished off with a black tassel. All original and in near mint condition with the only thing worth mentioning being normal surface scuffing to back of case. There are no dents or deep scratches. Case measures 3-1/4" long x 2" wide overall. No maker's mark that I could find ... could be underneath powder pots.

Usually these lovely little chatelaine purses are found with turquoise stones ... this is the only one I have ever seen with ruby colored jewels. Dating from Victorian times, this silver mesh purse with its ornate filigree frame features a butterfly with wings spread. Inside you will find an oval beveled mirror ... alas, it is beginning to show signs of its age, but wouldn't you at that age?? All in all, it is a great little purse from its chainlink handle to its tiny little silver ball fringe. Lower left front looks like it may have one ring of its mesh missing, but there is no hole, so I can't be sure. It may just be that a ring has become detached from one of its surrounding rings. Purse measures 3-1/4" wide x 5" long. Reduced from $995!

This is a stunning little vanity case with a gorgeous carved celluloid top with a colorful tropical print showing through from beneath. Inside the lid is a wide-beveled mirror whose silver is beginning to go. The bottom portion is done in topaz glass beads with fringe all the way around and matching full beaded tassel equally as long as the purse. The handle is also beaded in matching topaz beads. Interior is lined in a pale gold satin with white rope braided trim. It's just a darling purse in beautiful condition. The only fault I can find is a very tiny age split in the back side of the frame (see pic). It is tight and does not pull apart, so it has probably been this way for a long time. Purse is structurally sound and could be used if you desired. It's just great! Measures 3-1/4" diameter x 5" long to bottom of purse and another 6" for fringe!

This sweet little vanity case is full of surprises. The front of the case is engraved with initials in the center and the edges are chased with floral designs on a tapered bevel. Engine turned stripes complete the design. Back of case is all smooth silver ... please note that the scans make the silver look terrible ... it is much nicer in person! When opened, the case has two covered compartments on the left and a large mirror on the right. The mirror lifts up to reveal a celluloid writing tablet and a gold vermeil tray with spring clasp for paper money. On the left side, if you lift the top cover, you will find a tiny mechanical pencil -- original to the piece -- tucked on the back. Both covers and wells are all gold vermeil. There are a few very tiny dings to this case, otherwise it is in excellent condition. Marked Sterling and what may be "EP"? Measures 3-1/2" long x 2-1/2" wide.

One of the prettiest little vanities it has been my privilege to own and offer to you ... this one is so Victorian looking with its beautiful engine turned and etched silver case. But the striking thing about it is the gorgeous little bird resting on a flower in a cloud of blue enameling right in the center. This one took me a while to figure out how to open as the catch is concealed as part of the frame. Inside can be found a mirror in the lid, rouge and powder pots, and original puffs. The interior is done in a gold wash for elegance. The signature "R & G Co." can be found on the little tab that holds the rouge puff. It is in extraordinary condition with no damge visible. Normal slight wear to back of case. Chain handle and finger ring are embossed in lovely matching design. Measures 3-1/2" x 2" at widest points not counting chain.

This has to be one of the most unusual vanity dance purses I have ever come across. Triangular cshaped in a gold-tone case, the topis completely covered in cloisonne' enamel flowers and circles. In the center is a raised beveled glass jewel made in typical "End of Day" fashion with swirls of different colors. Braided mesh wrist strap finishes it off. The interior is fitted with a mirror on one side which snaps open to reveal the rouge pot. The other side has prongs to hold the powder pat which is no longer there but the puff is. There is also a removable lipstick. Entire piece is in very good condition with only very superficial wear. Upon close inspection, it appears that the jewel in the center has a sliver missing along one edge, but this is only seen -- and barely! -- with a magnifying glass. The detail of the jewel makes it virtually impossible to distinguish. Measures approximately 3" x 3" at widest points.

Here is an outstanding vanity case with wrist chain by Elginite. There is a tiny enamel guilloche cameo on the front with three little flowers on a white background. Case is all engine turned with deco design on front and a pebbly finish on the back. Interior is fitted with a full mirror in the lid while base has rouge and powder pots, both with original puffs and contents, and removable lipstick. Inside shows minor use but outside is near mint. Dates from the late 20's - early 30's. Measures 2-1/4" wide x 2-3/4" long not counting handle.

These lovely little parachute style purses are just so pretty. This one has one of the most beautiful tops I have run across ... be sure to look at close-up. The purse is by R & G and the entire top is sterling with enamel guilloche roses and ribbon. There is a sapphire jewel in the clasp. When you open the top, there is a swing out 2-sided mirror which covers a rouge pot (no rouge). Beneath this and covering the opening of the purse is a powder pan. Under the powder pan is the purse. It is a unique design and a classic one. The piece is signed R & G on the powder tray and 'Sterling Top.' The purse itself is enameled baby mesh which is worn evenly to a soft color.  As for condition, there is an area near the back hinge where about three tiles have come loose from the frame.  The lid has a tiny dent in the very center silver portion where the handle attaches.  Lastly, the enameling shows wear but lends a soft look to the coloration.  I have included a super close-up photo to sho what I mean by this.  To my eye, it is still a very attractive purse.  You can find this purse pictured in Lynell Schwartz's book "Vintage Purses at their Best", page 91. Measures 3" diameter at compact x 7" long to bottom of mesh tassel.

Not marked with a maker that I can find, but nice attention to detail makes this an unusually attractive vanity case. The pebbled finish to the case gives it its deco flair as well as the black silhouette of a lady who appears to be powdering her nose as well. Black silk braided cord wriste strap and original matching tassel finish it off. The inside of the case is divided in the center by a pivoting two-sided mirror in excellent condition. The lid side contains a rouge pot with rouge and original pink and blue puff. The other side has a large powder pot also with original pink and blue puff. Overall it is in exceptionally fine condition. Measures approximately 2-1/2" diameter.

Here is a very pretty Victorian looking vanity purse with a lovely enamel guilloche flower basket in gold with blue forget-me-nots and pink roses overflowing its sides. Topped with a blue ribbon, the snowy white background really shows it off to perfection. Engine-turned designs finish the front and back of the case. INterior is also all engine-turned in swirling patterns. One side houses a rotating powder sifter and the other holds a rouge pot (empty) and mirror. There were two brand new puffs with this when purchased but I don't believe they are original to the piece as they seem a bit big to me. However, I am enclosing them. The case does snap shut securely when they are inside. Purse measures 2-1/2" wide x 1-3/4" high. Wrist chain is done in embossed bars and links.

Even though this little vanity case is German silver, it is still wonderful. German silver is generally 800 silver, and this one is in great shape. The outside of the case is all chased in floral designs on the front, plain smooth on the back. When opened, the right side features a celluloid writing tablet and the left side has two covered compartments. Beneath the top compartment are two spring-loaded coin holders. The lower compartment has a puff with ribbon. Beneath the celluloid tablet, there is a purple lined paper money holder. There is even a little pencil ... probably not original, but it was in there when I purchased it, so it will remain. Back of case has three long dents (visible on pic). Other than that, case is great. Measures 3-1/2" long x 2-1/4" wide.

This lovely piece is one of those rare finds that is quality made but unmarked. I have never seen this one before, and it obviously dates from the late 1800's. Very tiny turquoise enameled flowers are set into a fan-shaped raised filigreed design that features a full-cut cameo in the center. Each little flower has a tiny sapphire center. There are two other jewels set in each of the upper corners. The workmanship of the filigree and the chasing on the case is just superb. Be sure to look at the close-ups to enjoy this beauty to its fullest. Interior is fitted with a mirror in the lid (silvering is beginning to go as would be expected for this age, but overall pretty good). Bottom of case is open for loose items such as cards or money. Embossed bar-and-link handle is original to piece as well. Measures approximately 1-7/8" wide x 3" high.

This sweet little gold mesh vanity purse has no maker's mark that I can find although it certainly should have. The top is a beautiful enamel guilloche flower set in cloisonne giving it intricate designs. Snow white with pale yellow are the only colors. Inside the lid is a mirror whose silver is pretty well shot. It could be easily replaced, but for the purists (like myself), I prefer to leave the original intact. Other than the mirror, the entire purse is in mint condition with no loose mesh or holes. Finished with a little mesh tassel. Measures 2" diameter x approximately7" long to bottom of tassel.

Someone really loved this one! All sterling silver with fantastic Egyptian Scarab designs on front and back. Front shows a monograph in scrolling letters ... there is damage right near the center that pierces the silver all the way through. However, it is on a seamed part of the interior, so it is stable and cannot get worse. The back is the same design without the monogram in the center. The reason I bought this -- even with the damage -- is because of the scarab beatle design and the wonderful interior. When opened, you immediately see a beveled mirror on one side and two covered compartments opposite it. When the mirror is raised up, there is a celluloid writing tablet with pencil holder and a silk lined coin purse across from it. It's just such a wonderful piece that I can forgive the damage. Measures 3-1/4" long x 2-3/4" wide x 3/4" thick.

Here is a very unusual large armor mesh vanity purse with striking art deco raised design on the lid. Interior is lined in gold silk while the lid contains a powder compact with original puff and sifter screen. There is no maker's mark on this and since it is of a design I have never seen before, I can't guess as to who may have made it. In any event, it is a unique piece and is in great condition. The gold mesh has a rich antique patina that I am leaving as is ... it may polish if you want it brighter, but I prefer the burnished color. Measures 3" wide x 6" long not counting handle.

Talk about one-of-a-kind! This one is absolutely stunning! The purse consists of a beaded wrist strap over a 24-kt. gold plated embossed top which in turn holds a draped beaded loop purse with thick beaded tassel. The edge of the lid is also ornately embossed. When opened, the underside of the lid is a large mirror. The interior is lined in black silk with white rosebuds around the opening... gorgeous! Measures approximately 4" wide x 8" long to bottom of tassel, not counting 6" handle. You won't find any better than this!
