Jeweled Elgin American Vanity Compact - 1939 New York World's Fair Trylon & Perisphere with Original Box This fantastic compact by Elgin American features a jeweled Trylon and Perisphere from the 1939 New York World's Fair on the lid. The case is a light green enamel with gold deco stripe accents (back of the case is solid green). Inside is a mirror in the lid and the base has two covered compartments ... one for rouge and one for powder. The original powder puff which reads Elgin American is also included and in perfect like-new condition. There is an empty rouge pot as well with refill instructions printed right in the pot. The original box is also green and has the EA emblem on the lid and original cotton wadding inside to cushion the compact. The gold interior has some pink markings in the gold which I have not attempted to remove ... it has a nice patina and I was afraid any rubbing would lighten the brass to a different shade so prefer to leave it as it is. Enameling is all in very good condition with no obvious wear; however, there is one small scratch on the back that I did not even notice until I took the supersized pics for this listing. Compact measures 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/4" high. Box is 3-1/2" x 3". (Click on pic for more photos.) |

Girey 1933 Chicago Century of Progress Compact with Original Box - Travel & Transportation Building This is a very nice compact by Girey in ivory enamel and faux marble. The front is ivory enamel on brass with engraved design picturing theTravel & Transportation Building. The sides andback of the case are done in ivory faux marble celluloid. Inside the compact is a nicely beveled mirror in the lid with some age foxing. The base has a rouge pot with rouge still intact and covered powder well, both with original puffs. To the naked eye, the compact is in excellent condition ... the photos actually make the front look much worse than it is in person. It is actually very nice. The original blue presentation box is still with it and is in reasonably good shape ... the lid is blue with silver stars. Compact measures 1-7/8" x 2-3/4". Box is 2-3/4" x 4". Girey Century of Progress Chicago 1934 Camera Compact I've had this very pretty Girey camera compact in my collection for many years. The colors in this one are just extraordinary ... turquoise blue case with mica flakes make it sparkle like jewels. The cover depicts the Sky Ride and says Sky Ride, Century of Progress, Chicago, 1934. The interior opens to reveal a nice beveled mirror in the top, rouge pot (rouge still intact) and covered powder pot. Both of the original puffs are still there. Now for the condition: there is normal age appropriate wear to the silver frame as evidenced in the pics. There is a split in the frame (also visible in close-up) right at the hinge point. I have had this repaired so that it works perfectly but the split is still visible. It didn't bother me as the compact is just so unique and pretty that it's not really noticeable. Other than that, the compact is in great shape. It measures 1-3/4" wide x 3-1/4" long. (Click on pic for more photos.) |
