1910 Snuff Box

rosette Fancy Engraved Oval Pocket Snuff Box Marked "Wesley Taylor" and Dated 1910 New Listing!

This is a rare and unique snuff box that was made in 1910.  The lid is marked "Wesley Taylor, 86 Cherry St., 1910, Waterbury, Conn."  I am not sure if Wesley Taylor is the company that made it, a company that it was advertising, or a person's name and address.  What I do know is that it is a very well made and fairly heavy piece for its size.  In my research, I was able to find one other almost identical box - the only difference being the engraving and the year.  It sold at an auction in England for the equivalent of $314 US Dollars (after doing the conversion with the buyer's premium). I believe it is brass with possibly a zinc lining? Click here to check it out!   Measures 3" wide x 1-3/4" x 7/8" deep.

Sterling Silver Cigarette Holder

rosette Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder in Art Deco Design Made in Germany? in Original Case

This is a really gorgeous cigarette holder in sterling silver with a stunning Art Deco design in enamel guilloche.  There are markings on the rim which I cannot make out clearly but I believe to be Sterling and Germany or possibly Austria.  The mouthpiece is done in rootbeer colored bakelite.  This lovely little cigarette holder comes in its original velvet-lined case with a snap closure which snaps shut tightly.  It measures 3-3/4" long and the case measures 4-3/8" long.

Sterling Silver Cigarette Holder

rosette Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder with Ejector Tip in Original Case Made in Austria

Here is a really gorgeous enamel guilloche sterling silver cigarette holder done in a rich cobalt blue on the tip with a snowy white enamel guilloche body with hand-painted roses and forget-me-nots.  The mouthpiece is an elegantly long deep blue catalin.  It comes in its original faux alligator case with velvet lining in the bottom and a snap closure.  The holder itself is in excellent condition and has an ejector tip -- when you push on the end, the ejector pushes the cigarette out, thus keeping your hands clean and free of the cigarette butt.  It is marked Austria on the rim and although I can't find the markings for sterling, I was told when I purchased it that it was tested for sterling and passed.  Since all of these I have ever seen have been sterling, I have no reason to doubt that.  It measures an elegant 4-3/8" long and the case measures 5-1/8" long.

Enamel Guilloche Covered Jar

rosette Gorgeous Deep Blue Enamel Guilloche Covered Jar

This is a truly beautiful deep blue enamel guilloche covered jar.  The design has deep blue stripes that cover the top and sides of the jar.  There are no sharp edges; both the bottom and top have rounded edges.  The interior is fitted with a plastic insert which is not removable.  Although it appears to be sterling, I cannot find any markings denoting that.  There is a marking on the lid in the center with a VW inside a double circle, very faint and hard to see unless looking at it from an angle.  I have not been able to find any information about that marking either.  This entire piece is in excellent condition with no damage to the enamel, no chips, no scratches.  Measures 2-1/4" diameter x almost 3" high.

Enamel Guilloche Case

rosetteSterling Silver Fully-Enameled Guilloche Cigarette/Card Case with Hand-Painted Roses in Vase and Gold Vermeil Interior

In all my years of collecting, I have never run across another case like this one which is probably why I have hung onto it since 2006.  But it's time to give it a new home.  This case is very unique in that it is enameled in guilloche designs on all six sides and the top is completely different from the sides and bottom which are striped and checkered.  The top side features a guilloche background with an overlay of hand-painted roses in a shallow bowl.  The sides have green zigzag stripes and the bottom has the same green zigzag stripes in a checked pattern.  The interior is finished in a gold vermeil. The case is totally find for display and/or for use; however, it is not in perfect condition.  As I was using it for display, the flaws did not matter to me as the design was unique enough for me to overlook them.  The top and bottom of the case have numerous surface scratches in the clear coat enamel which can be seen only when held at an angle to the light.  None of the scratches go into the paint. There is a flake in the clearcoat on the top left corner on the front.  The front and back sides have some dings which are visible in the photos.  The piece is marked "STERLING": on the inner rim and there are hallmarks on the top and bottom of the inside.  According to Marks4Antiques, the hallmark is most likely Vienna, Austria, and the SF is probably a jeweler who imported the piece and it would be circa 1925.  Price is based upon condition and is why it is so inexpensive.  If it were perfect, it would be at least twice as much as it is a very rare piece.  Measures 3-1/4" x 2-1/4" x 1/2" deep.

NOTE: You will see in one of the photos that I was going to ask $550 for this based on what I paid for it years ago, but I am offering it now at below what I paid. I have never had it for sale before.

Viennese Parlor Set

rosette Austrian Viennese Miniature Parlor Set with Hand-Painted Romantic Figurals on Enamel with Ormolu Trim

I fell in love with this beautiful 19th century hand-painted Viennese miniature parlor set when I bought it back in 2014.  The details in the hand-painted scenes are just superb, particularly on the desk which features Nicolas Lancret's 1730 painting Madamoiselle De Camargo Dancing.  The loveseat and chair also feature paintings from that same genre.  All pieces are set in brass ormolu with exquisite detailing around the edges.  Although bought as a set, the desk is ever so slightly different so I am selling it separately. All pieces are in excellent condition with nice original patina.  The loveseat and chair are signed Austria on the bottom, the desk is not marked.

Measurements:  Loveseat is 3" x 1-1/2" x almost 2-3/4" high; Chair is 1-3/8" x 1-1/8" x 2-5/8" high; Desk is 3-1/8" x 2-1/4" x 2" high

Viennese Parlor Set

rosette Austrian Viennese Miniature Parlor Chair with Hand-Painted Romantic Figurals on Enamel with Ormolu Trim

Purchased at the same time as the set above, this piece is similar enough to be used with the other pieces.  It also features hand-painted figurals on enamel set in brass ormolu.  I especially love the little curlicue trim at the top of the chair back.  Also dating from the same period, it is attributed to Austria (Vienna) but it is not marked anywhere.  It is in excellent conditon with some darkening to the patina as seen in photos. Measures 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 2-3/4" high.

Sterling Silver Bakelite Cigarette Holder

rosette Vienna, Austria, Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder with Ejector Tip in Original Case

This beautiful little cigarette holder is so glamorous!  Hallmarked "Sterling" and "Austria", this hand-painted enameled tip holder comes in its original little velvet lined case.  The holder itself is in excellent condition and has an ejector tip -- when you push on the end, the ejector pushes the cigarette out, thus keeping your hands clean and free of the cigarette butt.  It is a nice compact size measuring only 3-1/16" long.  It's a real little gem!

Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder

rosette Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder Made in Austria

This is one of my favorite cigarette holders ... probably because I am such a fan of anything blue with pink and this fits the bill totally!  The stem of the piece is an early bakelite or celluloid and the tip is a snowy white enamel guilloche with pretty pink roses handpainted all around and a blue border at the very end.  This is done on sterling silver and it was made in Austria.  There are hallmarks on the rim for Austria, Sterling, and the initials LH. The enamel is all in perfect condition ... there is some wear to the mouthpiece end. I will try to polish this out with Novus.  Just a gorgeous piece and very striking in color!  Measures 4" long.

Sterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder

rosetteSterling Silver Enamel Guilloche Cigarette Holder by EJEKT in Original Box

Although I have never been a smoker, I have always been a collector of beautiful enamel guilloche lady's items and cigarette holders are among the most elegant of all!  Can you just imagine the lifestyle that would allow you to whip out one of these and insert a cigarette in it?  You would have to be among the most stylish of women of your time, no doubt!  This particular piece is an unusual design done in sterling silver and enamel guilloche with hand-painted roses on it.  What makes it unusual is that it has a stem that pushes inward to eject the cigarette, hence the name "EJEKT" which is stamped on the neck in the silver portion.  The design was applied for patent as well. The hand-painted rose is done on an ivory background and there is one on each side.  They are exquisitely detailed and the entire piece is in excellent condition.  This item comes with an original felt sleeve and blue velvet box.  It is a smaller size than the one above and measures 3" long.

Catalin Cigarette Holder

rosette Art Deco Carved Catalin Cigarette Holder

Here we have a really fun cigarette holder done in bright orange catalin with a narrow green band for accent.   The design is carved geometric bent circles ... hard to describe but it's as if there were round balls which were then flattened and the center seam is raised.  I hope the pictures will show this better than I can describe it.  The stem unscrews from the tip for easy storing.  It is in excellent condition and measures 3-7/8" long.

Smelling Salts Jar

rosette Sterling Silver Overlay on Emerald Glass Smelling Salts Jar

This is a very pretty smelling salts jar which has Art Nouveau styling in sterling silver overlay on the glass.  The lid is marked sterling and does have some dents that could probably be easily hammered out with the proper tools as sterling is pretty maleable.  When the lid is unscrewed, the original wide mouth stopper is found inside.  The stopper and the rim of the jar are in excellent condition ... the only damage other than the dents in the lid are some chips on the glass base but these are behind the silver overlay so they never show from any side.  You have to turn the piece over to see them at all and they don't affect the seal of the glass.  This can be used in your purse today to hold pills and would be a secure means of carrying any small valuables as well.  It is a very unique piece for sure!  The piece is unmarked except for the word Sterling on the lid.  Measures 2-1/4" tall x 1" diameter.

French Trinket Jar with Watch

rosette Unusual French Hand-Painted Trinket Jar with Watch

I've never seen anything like this beautiful Limoges trinket jar with it's hand-painted figural birds and blue ribbons and -- most importantly -- a watch inside!  The watch will lift up to expose the open compartment beneath ... perfect for pills or other small items you want to keep with you.  The watch is a Swiss made quartz watch by Laugerotte and is not working at present.  There is no battery inside so it may just need a new battery.  In any event, I am selling it as is and it is up to you if you want to try to get it working or not.  I bought it for it's uniqueness and beauty and only used it for display.  The entire piece is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind the porcelain.  It is signed on the base and is trimmed in brass ormolu.  Just a stunning piece and unlike any other!  Measures 1-3/8" diameter x a bit over 3-1/4" high.

Champleve Candle Holder

rosette Lovely French Bronze Champlevé Enamel Boudoir Candle with Hand-Painted Porcelain Figural Insert Signed "E M"

Long been a prize in my collection, this gorgeous champlevé enamel boudoir candle holder is truly exquisite.  The curved handle offsets a beautifully shaped framed portrait of a young lady in a pink gown reading a book.  The candle holder is at the far end of this painting and has a removable collar (it's actually amazing that it has not been lost over the years!).  Then at the very end is an openwork curlicue design.  Although it is not marked France, these are typically attributed to the French so I am describing it as such although it could be continental.  The four feet raise the candle holder off the surface and give it extra stability.  All in all, this is a truly gorgeous piece that will be a highlight in any collection.  I have a small assortment of champlevé items that I am parting with so be sure to see the other items below.  Candle holder measures 8" long x 4" wide x 2-3/4" high.  (Candle not included)

This lovely Art Deco bakelite (or Galalith) desk/letter writing set comes in its original presentation box and has five ornately decorated pieces.  These include a wax sealer (unmonogrammed base), pencil with lead, pen with nib, ink scraper, and letter opener.  These rest in a velvet-fitted leatherette case which is lined with a silk pad and has indented spaces for the tools.  There is a pretty braided trim around the velvet bed. There is also a space for an additional pen nib which is empty.  The set is made of Bakelite (Catalin) or Galalith (a milk protein plastic which was produced in a rainbow of brilliant colors and marbling patterns from the 1920s to the 1940s in both France and Germany).  All pieces are in excellent condition with only very minor wear to the metal on the ink scraper and a bit of wear to the front left corner of the box.  It is a real beauty and very showy with bright vivid colors.  Box measures 8-3/4"  x 4" x 1" deep.

Bonwit Teller Enamel Guilloche Boudoir Clock

rosette Lovely Bronze Enamel Guilloche Footed Boudoir Clock from Bonwit Teller Co.

This is a beautiful bourdoir clock made by Bonwith Teller Co. in a bronze case with ornamental decoration on the top, rope twisted edging around the front, and a curlicue footed base.  The background on the face of the clock is a teal enamel guilloche which has a bit of discoloration at the 5 o'clock position and the cover is glass.  The clock was made in the U.S.A. (marked at bottom of clock face).  I purchased this clock in non-working condition to use as a shelf piece.  I love the way it looks and I didn't really care that it wasn't working.  I am now ready to pass it along for someone else to enjoy.  The stand on the back was missing when I bought it so I made a stand that works just like the original would have and supports the clock perfectly.  Please see photos.

Clock measures 3" wide x 5" high.

Note:  This clock is for display only and would need servicing to work.  I purchased it strictly to enjoy looking at it, not to tell time.

Sterling Silver Vesta

rosette Sterling Silver Repoussé Vesta (Match Safe) with Figural Jester on Both Sides, F. S. Gilbert, Massachusetts

What a fun little chatelaine vesta this is!  All sterling silver repoussé, this vesta was made by the F. S. Gilbert Co. of North Attleboro, Massachusetts.  The company was in business from 1904 - 1915.  Both sides of the case are identical with a Jester at the top and bottom of each side.  There is a striker section across both sides of the bottom.  The tiny ring on the side is there to attach to a chatelaine so I would date this to the earlier of the date span.  Front of the case is in excellent condition, back side has a tiny ding in the center and edges have some teeny dints (not big enough to be dents lol).  The lid is spring loaded for a tight fit.  This would also be a great container for stamps, small pills, etc. for in your purse.   Measures 1" wide x 2-1/8" high x 3/8" deep counting the raised vignette.

Sterling Silver Cigarette Case

rosette Sterling Silver Cigarette Case with Sapphire Jewel and Enamel Stripes Dated 1926, Germany

This lovely art deco design cigarette case was made in Germany and is marked 900 sterling.  The Case has engine turned stripes on both sides and blue accent enameled stripes on the front.  There is a sapphire jeweled clasp as well.  The inside is finished in gold wash and has an inscription in German on the right inside half which, when transcribed, reads as follows:

"To my beloved Ernst, given with devotion from your Erna. Frankfurt am Main*, September 10, 1926".

*Frankfurt am Main is a city along the river Main in the center of Germany

I think it is sweet that their names were so similar ... Ernst and Erna ♥  There is another inscription on the left side of the interior which is also in German but the translation eludes me here (see photos).  If anyone can help out, feel free to email me.  The case is in excellent condition and is a wonderful collector's item.  Measures 3-1/2" x 3" x 1/2" deep.

Lenox Tiny Alarm Clock

rosette Miniature Mother-of-Pearl Lenox Fleur de Lys de Paris Boudoir Clock in Cathedral Presentation Case

This is a gorgeous miniature mother-of-pearl boudoir clock by Lenox that is marked "Fleur de Lys de Paris" that I have treasured for years in my own collection.  The little clock nestles in a velvety lined cathedral double-door presentation case with brass latch.  The clock itself has mother-of-pearl trim around the face and on the base.  It is topped with a fleur de lis design on the top in keeping with the name.  The back of the case is richly engraved in a beautiful design remiscent of the early pocket watches.  The clock movement is Swiss and is running at this time.  When it is running, a little tiny pendulum can be seen swinging back and forth in the heart-shaped window at the bottom of the clock face ... just so sweet!  Clock measures 2-1/2" high x 1-1/2" wide.  Case is 2-3/4" high x 1-7/8" wide.  The only apology is a stain on the back top of the case, other than that everything is perfect!
