EXTREMELY RARE!!! Yellow Enamel Guilloche Sterling Silver "Pli" from George Stockwell of London Dated 1927

I just love these ingenious little Pli powder dusters with built-in powder containers and puffs.. What makes them unique is that the loose powder is put into the slender end (cap with Pli name on it unscrews). The cap at the top unscrews and as you push the tube upward, a feathered puff pops out the top! With a little shake, the powder is then dispensed into the puff for dusting onto your face. This one is an extremely rare sterling silver yellow enamel guilloche.  It is only the second enamel guilloche sterling silver Pli I have ever seen in all my years of collecting and the ONLY one I have ever seen without damage to the enamel.  This one is in absolutely mint condition with no damage to the enamel whatsoever.  It is hallmarked 925 for sterling and for George Stockwell of London with date mark 1927.   It is an absolutely stunning little piece and totally functional.  Just a wonderful little invention! Measures just a tad over 3" long x 3/4" diameter.

This has been one of my favorite little novelty compacts for many, many years in my collection.  Made by Mondaine, this one has never been used and would be in mint condition if it weren't for some of the silver loss on the mirror due to age.  Both of the original puffs are still inside, also unused.  There is loose powder in the powder well and a rouge pot with the "M" for Mondaine still embossed in it.  The front of the "book" features a secret compartment that opens to reveal lip gloss.  The compact is covered front and back with faux leather and gold gilt and the lip gloss compartment has deep burgundy enamel trim.  The frame on it is a bright gold and is in great condition.  This is such a unique little case and a joy to own.   Measures 2-3/4" x 2" overall.

Another rare item is this bracelet compact made in England by LeRage.  The piece is all original and has a lovely gold tone compact with very detailed bracelet.  The compact opens to reveal a mirror in the top and a powder screen in the base with the LeRage logo beneath.  It is really a stunning piece and is in excellent condition!  The compact measures 1-5/8" diameter and the overall length is 6-3/4" long.

Although I cannot find a maker's mark on this set, it is very desirable and a great collectible just the same.  Made in the shape of a fancy hand mirror, this little compact features an oval beveled mirror on one side that lifts to show another mirror on the inside and an open powder well.  The case is done in black enamel.  The matching tortie comb also has the same ornate shaping as the mirror and is also done in black enamel.  Both pieces fit snugly inside a little fabric case for protection.  Both pieces do have some chipping to the enamel and some spots that have been touched up.  Price is based on the condition otherwise it would be significantly higher.  It's a very rare set that I have not seen anywhere else and totally usable.  Mirror measures 5-1/4" long x 2" wide.  Comb measures approx. 4-1/4" long x 1" wide.  Carrying case measures 6" x 2-3/4".

Here is a darling little compact made to look like a basket of flowers ... how sweet is that?  Made by Parker Pen Wadsworth, it features a swivel embossed handle over a basket-shaped gold base with enamel red and white flowers sprinkled on the cover. The handle folds down so as to take up less space in your purse.  Inside the compact has a mirror in the lid and a brand new unused powder screen in the base along with an "Inspected by 5" paper slip.  The original puff is no longer there but it is obvious the compact was never used.  It is in excellent condition with the only apology being a little rub mark on the back lower half from storage and where the handle rubs the sides when lowered.  Measures 2" diameter (basket) x 1-1/4" high not counting handle..

I just love these ingenious little Houppette Pli powder dusters made in France. What makes them unique is that the loose powder is put into the slender end (cap with Pli name on it unscrews). The opposite end also unscrews and as you push the tube inward, a feathered puff pops out the other end! With a little shake, the powder is then dispensed into the puff for dusting onto your face. This one is an aqua green/blue color with a black and silver-based overlay design on both ends ... quite pretty!  There is just a wee bit of wear to the silver on the handle end.  The puff is in excellent condition as are the supporting wires that hold it. The box has cotton padding inside and the original instructions are still there.  The box is also in excellent condition with the original Molinard stamp on the outside.  Only other thing I would like to point out is that the handle is a bit darker color than the top ... not sure if this was made this way or if it could perhaps be cleaned?  I don't know but am leaving it as it is.   Just a wonderful little invention! Measures 3-1/4" long x 3/4" wide overall.  Box is 3-3/4" long x 1" wide x 7/8" high.

Pretty Trio-Ette Compact by Plate'

Another one of my favorite compacts due to the ingenious design and use of space. The front has a beautiful deeply embossed rose surrounded with leaves ... the outer rim has raised beaded design. The rose lifts up to reveal a mirror inside the lid and the original powder screen and original Plate' puff in base. Flip it over and there is a mirror on the back side as well. This also opens up to reveal yet another mirror on the reverse side and a rouge pot in the base with puff.  The handle pulls out with a lipstick attached. Excellent condition throughout with the exception of a bit of crinkling on the silver of the rouge mirror inside. Measures 4-1/4" long x 2-5/8" wide overall.

Here we have a fun little vanity known as a "camera" case due to its unique design which resembles a camera.  This one is done in faux tortie finish and was made in Germany ... there is a cartouche on the front depicting the Ahrensburg Caslte in Hamburg, Germany, probably made for the tourist trade in the 40's or 50's.   The little button on the lower right corner pops up the center panel which reveals a mirror in the lid and an original powder screen in the base with traces of loose powder beneath.  If you turn the compact over, there is a clip that opens to reveal a large compartment for paper money and a spring-loaded cigarette holder.  The other end of the compact has a little ring that when pulled upon, a lipstick slides out. This ring can also be used to clip the vanity to a purse or key chain. Very clever! It is in excellent condition with the exception of two specks of enamel loss on the back on the clasp portion (see photos).  Measures 2" wide x 3-7/8" high.

Kigu "Shamrock Bouquet" Minuette Musical Compact

This is a rare design Kigu compact with a "window" in the top showcasing a delightful shamrock bouquet ... perfect for St. Patrick's Day! The case is a bright and shiny gold with embossed design on the top and a scalloped shell effect around the sides. Inside is a mirror in the lid, a covered powder well with original unused screen on the right, and a "Minuette" music box on the left (click here for a video to hear the music). The piece is in very fine condition with only the most minor scuffs on the bottom edge ... it has been stored in a black silk pouch which will be included. Just about as close to mint condition as possible for an item of this age which has never been used. Measures almost 3-1/2" x 3" x 1" thick.

Here we have a fun little vanity known as a "camera" case due to its unique design which resembles a camera made by Girey. Try as I might, I could NOT get the blue color to show up accurately. Although it looks like a royal blue, in reality it is a vibrant bright deep turquoise with what look to be mica flakes throughout the celluloid that sparkle beautifully. In the center is a brass 3-dimensional eagle with shield and arrows (see close-up).The little button on the lower right corner pops up the center panel which reveals a beveled mirror in the lid (with only a few spots of foxing). In the base is a covered powder well with original unused puff and a rouge pot with a slightly used puff and original rouge still intact. The other end of the compact has a little ring that when pulled upon, a lipstick slides out. This can also be used to clip the vanity to a purse or key chain. Very clever! It is in excellent condition throughout. Measures 1-3/4" wide x 3-1/4" high.

Beside this is a covered powder well with original puff. The other end of the compact has a little ring that when pulled upon, a lipstick slides out. This can also be used to clip the vanity to a purse or key chain. Very clever! Celluloid is all in excellent condition with no discoloration, spots or scratches. Measures 1-3/4" wide x 3-1/4" high.

In the bottom is a rouge pot with original puff and rouge still intact (slightly used) and a covered powder well, also with original puff. The other end of the compact has a little ring that when pulled upon, a lipstick slides out. This can also be used to clip the vanity to a purse or key chain. Very clever! Celluloid is all in reasonably good condition with one little dark spot on the back lower edge (see pics). Measures 1-3/4" wide x 3-1/4" high.

Girey Century of Progress Chicago 1934 Camera Compact

I've had this very pretty Girey camera compact in my collection for many years. The colors in this one are just extraordinary ... turquoise blue case with mica flakes make it sparkle like jewels. The cover depicts the Sky Ride and says Sky Ride, Century of Progress, Chicago, 1934. The interior opens to reveal a nice beveled mirror in the top, rouge pot (rouge still intact) and covered powder pot. Both of the original puffs are still there. Now for the condition:  there is normal age appropriate wear to the silver frame as evidenced in the pics. There is a split in the frame (also visible in close-up) right at the hinge point. I have had this repaired so that it works perfectly but the split is still visible. It didn't bother me as the compact is just so unique and pretty that it's not really noticeable. Other than that, the compact is in great shape. It measures 1-3/4" wide x 3-1/4" long.

This is a very pretty and feminine bracelet with a compact inside. There are 3-dimensional flowers on the top and sides of this piece. The bracelet opens with a clasp and is hinged on the opposite side. The top lifts up to reveal a mirror in the lid and original powder screen in the base. Measures 2-1/2" diameter. Top (compact) measures 1-7/8 ". Excellent condition throughout ... doesn't appear to have ever been used! I will include a tiny swansdown puff (not pictured). Unmarked.

Rare RED Trio-Ette Compact by Plate'

Another one of my favorite compacts due to the ingenious design and use of space. The front has a beautiful deeply embossed rose surrounded with leaves ... the outer rim has raised beaded design. The rose lifts up to reveal a mirror inside the lid and the original powder screen in base. Flip it over and there is a mirror on the back side as well. This also opens up to reveal yet another mirror on the reverse side and a rouge pot in the base with original Plate' puff. Rouge still inside! The handle pulls out to offer a storage compartment for a tiny lipstick. There were different versions of this design made ... I have seen them both with the open handle like this and with the lipstick attached. Excellent condition throughout. Measures 4-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide overall.

This is a darling little chatelaine compact in sterling silver with an aqua enamel guilloche top. The reverse side has a mirror on the front and also opens to reveal a powder well with another mirror inside in excellent condition. Tiny ring at base of handle is to attach to a chatelaine but could be worn on a pendant as well. The enameling is in excellent condition with a tiny bit of roughness around the perimeter which is partially the way it was made and partially from wear. Trust me when I say the lighting in the photo makes it look much worse than it is ... in person it appears to be fine. Measures 3-1/2" long x 1-3/4" wide overall.

This is a very rare and quite beautiful hand-mirror shaped compact in rich cobalt enameling with a hand-painted impressionistic courting scene on the front. This is a bit larger than some ... measures 5-1/4" long x 2" wide. Interior has original unused powder screen and puff and oval beveled mirror in lid. Original gold foil label on mirror reads "Elegante" and is shaped like a crown. This has been in my personal collection for quite some time and is one of my favorite pieces!

Here we have a wonderful little compact in the shape of a hand mirror... it comes with its own little protective sleeve which is stamped "sanz tarongi-paris" on the inside. The compact itself has a beveled mirror on the reverse side which opens to reveal another beveled mirror on the inside. Original powder screen can be found inside with traces of loose powder and a pretty peach-colored swansdown puff. Made in France. Measures 4-3/4" long x 2-1/4" diameter. Excellent condition!

This is a large mint condition Elgin compact in the shape of a spaceship and all in sterling silver! This is a design I have never seen before ... interior has a large mirror in the lid and a covered powder well in the bottom with spring latch. Original unused puff still inside marked "Elgin American". One of the finest compacts I've run across ... and condition is extraordinary ... no dents or scratches to surface at all. Measures 4" diameter!
